Field Service Technician I

The Field Service Technician I provides basic assistance to Senior Field Representatives at regional off-site fuel cell powerplant global locations and provides hands-on support of maintenance and repair services on-site for HyAxiom's fleet of fuel cell installations. This position will participate in the commissioning of new fuel cells at new sites, as well as support of troubleshooting, testing, and repair activities on existing fuel cell installations. This is the Field Service Technician entry-level position which will gradually advance in skill and know-how with appropriate hands-on experience, available training, and career and personal development.

Role & Responsibility

  • Under appropriate guidance and direction, perform controlled troubleshooting and repairs on fuel cells installed at customer sites.
  • Collaborate with others to support the commissioning of new fuel cell installations.
  • With guidance, perform service and some troubleshooting on ancillary equipment used for overall fuel cell operation.
  • Understand principles of large distribution switchgear 480-volt systems.
  • Experience with computer systems, preferably remote monitoring and control systems.
  • Understand mechanical and electrical componentry, plumbing, and systems operation.
  • Will increasingly understand the fuel cell remote monitoring system used to control fuel cells.
  • Understand and utilize electrical schematics to help troubleshoot electrical components.
  • Completion of all assigned reports prior to leaving customer site.
  • With guidance and counsel, provision and maintenance of accurate product service histories.
  • Flexibility to provide service to critical customer needs upon demand.
  • Availability for overtime as needed.
  • Travel to international and domestic sites as needed.

Job Requirements - Education & Experience

  • 2-4+ years of hands-on experience servicing/troubleshooting products containing a variety of components.
  • AA/AS with 0-2+ years of experience, as noted above.
  • Electrical/HVAC trade school certification.
  • E1/E2 or P1/P2 license preferred.
  • Highly directed customer focus.
  • Trades training and experience.
  • Dependable off-site customer support work experience.

Job Requirements - Knowledge & Skill

  • Knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and fuel processing systems.
  • Some training and experience with troubleshooting systems.
  • Some relevant trades training and experience.
  • Experience with computer systems.
  • Analytical thinking.
