Applied AI Engineer

This position is part of the Enterprise Services – Data & AI organization within RTX Corporate, supporting the company's mission to develop and scale AI capabilities responsibly and securely across the enterprise. The Applied AI Engineer designs and builds AI-enabled applications that enhance productivity and decision-making across RTX. This hands-on role focuses on developing reusable components, autonomous workflows, and multi-agent patterns that demonstrate measurable business value from modern AI technologies.

What You Will Do:

  • Build and deploy AI applications that leverage large language models (LLMs) and agentic reasoning frameworks to perform complex, multi-step tasks.
  • Design and implement context-aware orchestration, tool-use, and memory mechanisms that allow AI systems to operate autonomously within defined boundaries.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to prototype AI copilots and digital assistants that augment human workflows in engineering, sustainment, and operations.
  • Develop reusable SDKs, documentation, and internal demos to accelerate adoption of AI capabilities.
  • Partner with platform and MLOps teams to ensure solutions are secure, scalable, and governed.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires a University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience.
  • Python & TypeScript for AI apps; LLM frameworks (LangChain, AutoGen, Semantic Kernel)
  • Agentic AI concepts; vector search (Pinecone, FAISS, Azure AI Search)
  • Cloud AI services & APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Azure AI, Bedrock)

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Hands-on experience building and deploying agents for business use cases (e.g., workflow orchestration, data transformation or analysis, multi-agent system)
  • Understanding of prompt engineering, contextual retrieval, and self-reflective agent design.
  • Familiarity with enterprise integration patterns and secure API development.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.

Work Location: This is a hybrid role, eligible candidates must reside within commuting distance from Farmington, CT, additional locations will be considered MA, TX, IA, CA.

The salary range for this role is 101,000 USD - 203,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills. Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.
