We're looking for a hands-on Design System Engineer / Lead to own and evolve our organization's design system. This person will be both the technical steward and a collaborator across product and design teams, ensuring consistency, accessibility, and scalability in how we build experiences.

The design system is partially built, but will still grow and need to be maintained, so this role will balance direct contribution (coding, documenting, releasing components) with internal enablement (setting standards, guiding contributors, and facilitating crowdsourced adoption).

This is a rare opportunity to define not just the system, but also the operating model for how the system grows across multiple product teams.

What You'll Do:

• Own the technical direction, architecture, and governance of the design system.
• Build and maintain core components, tokens, utilities, and documentation.
• Ensure accessibility (WCAG compliance), performance, and scalability are foundational.

Enable Crowdsourcing

• Establish contribution guidelines, review processes, and code quality standards.
• Partner with designers, engineers, and PMs across the org to identify needs and coordinate contributions.
• Act as the "editor in chief" for the system—merging and maintaining consistency.

Drive Adoption

• Evangelize the design system internally through demos, workshops, and clear documentation.
• Build feedback loops to continuously improve the system.
• Collaborate with product teams to align component priorities with business needs.

What We're Looking For

Technical Skills

• Strong proficiency in front-end technologies (React, TypeScript, CSS-in-JS, Storybook, etc.).
• Experience with design tokens, component libraries, and accessibility best practices.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and package management (npm, monorepos, versioning strategies).

Collaboration & Leadership

• Experience driving cross-functional initiatives with design, engineering, and product.
• Strong communication skills—able to explain technical and design tradeoffs clearly.
• Comfort with balancing being an IC builder and an organizational influencer.

Language

Excellent command of the English language + Romanian or Polish native level.

Nice to Have

• Prior experience maintaining or contributing to a large-scale design system.
• Knowledge of design tooling integration (Figma, Sketch, etc.).

⁃ Experience working in resource-constrained environments (startups, scale-ups, or lean teams).
