The Role

The program is delivered in a secure and supportive therapeutic setting and provides psychoeducational group work, counselling, case management and advocacy. This approach supports victim survivors, including children, to remain in their homes and in connection with their support networks, to maximise their safety.

Behaviour Change Support Worker position is a rewarding opportunity to make a difference in Communicare's Breathing Space Men's Behaviour Change (MBC) Program.

In this role your key responsibilities will include:

• Supporting men to develop and maintain safe and healthy relationships.
• Contributing to risk assessments, safety planning, and case notes.
• Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
• Maintaining strong interpersonal skills and a calm, compassionate approach to client engagement, including the ability to respond effectively to individuals experiencing crisis or emotional distress.

The service operates 24/7, and the BCSW working patterns will include evening, sleep shifts, and weekend working. Rosters are based on business needs and subject to change. The successful candidate must be flexible and able to adapt to a fast-paced environment. Specific shift times will be discussed during the interview process.

About You

You are passionate about keeping women and children safe from family domestic violence, coupled with a desire to help men change their behaviours through education around Domestic and Family Violence and Abuse (FDVA). You will also have:

• Tertiary qualification in the human services field, and/or significant experience in family and domestic violence and abuse.
• Experienced in de-escalation skills, crisis support and willingness to assist with program understanding.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work effectively independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
• Ability to identify and respond to challenging behaviours and manage crisis situations.
• Ability to engage with individuals from diverse backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, culturally and linguistically diverse populations, and people with disabilities.
• Unrestricted driver's licence, Police clearance, Working With Children Check or willing to obtain, and willingness to obtain a Department of Justice integrity clearance if required.
