Chief Operating Officer (COO) Risk Team Member
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) Risk team is responsible for providing specialist Operational Risk and Compliance (OR&C) advice, assurance and acceptance/approval of decisions made across the COO. This role will focus specifically on the Operations functions supporting Institutional Banking and Markets (IB&M) business.
Support CBA's journey to NPS +30 and delivering better customer outcomes through leading risk management – specifically effective, practical insights, ORMF and CMF support, efficient governance and timely, fact-based reporting, and enabling the effective operation of the COO Operational Risk & Compliance team to drive great business, risk and customer outcomes.
Key responsibilities for this role include:
Technical:
- Working as part of a team of professional SMEs to provide independent, pragmatic and value adding Compliance and Op risk advice, risk in change assessments, assurance and approval/acceptance for the risk associated with the support provided by the Operations function to the IB&M business.
- Monitoring and reporting of 3LoA activities to the Executive Manager, including BAU management of the Risk Management Approach, Compliance Management Framework and the Operational Risk Management Framework in support of CPS 220.
- Providing input to the Executive Manager into regulatory submissions, attestations, incident notification, regulatory consultations, regulatory change implementation and other matters as required under CBA's internal frameworks, policies and governance.
- Act as the lead Compliance SME for stakeholder engagements and provide constructive challenge across all levels.
- Contributing to the oversight and monitoring of key operational controls, issues and incidents, risk in change and licensing and obligations, risk acceptance.
- Supporting the appropriate identification, escalation and reporting of all related compliance and operational risk matters to the relevant stakeholders, including the relevant NFRCs, your EM/GM and to the Technology and Operations CRO.
- Lead Line 2 assurance activities and deep-dives.
- Operating in an agile way, provide timely and effective insight on change management risk impacts and drive mitigating action.
Leadership:
- Work as part of a cross-skilled and curious team that can support a range of areas both analytically and commercially, speaking up and contributing to appropriate Line 2 oversight and challenge.
- Provide ideas for Line 2 risk management and assurance activities, analytics, and reporting. Contribute to a culture of learning and collaboration.

- Develop and maintain partnerships with stakeholders to become a trusted advisor through using commercial acumen, practical recommendations and assisting the business to understand where prioritised focus on key risks and compliance matters is required.
We're interested in hearing from people who have:
- Strong compliance experience supporting Institutional Lending, Global Markets and Trade Finance "Operations" functions or Business Lines. Additional operational risk experience in these areas is considered favourable.
- High quality written and verbal communication skills, report writing, evidence gathering and data capabilities.
- Stakeholder and influencing skills with the ability to engage pragmatically as a trusted but independent partner.
- A curious and humble mindset, understanding of external trends and changes, interest in learning, to build risk management best practice.
