St Michael Medical Center, Silverdale, Washington
This job is responsible, under the direction of a Registered Nurse or Physician and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, for providing quality practical nursing care that is focused on the comfort and well being of the patient and family consistent with the scope of licensed practice and the standards/procedures of the Franciscan Health System. Employees perform practical nursing care tasks, carry out routine aspects of the designated nursing regimen, participate in patient care planning, assist with and/or perform therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, report/document observations of patients, and assist in maintaining an optimum physical and emotional environment for assigned patients.
Work requires an understanding of patient care planning and practice, skill in the preparation/administration of medications, knowledge of physical and emotional reactions to a variety of treatment procedures and skill in maintaining effective working relationships with staff, patients and multi-disciplinary team members. Work contributes to a base of standard nursing care upon which further nursing care may be planned and/or provided, and an incumbent's observation/assessment skills may have an impact on patient care outcomes.
Employees use initiative in carrying out recurring tasks independently within scope of practice and established standards of care. A Physician or RN provides specific instructions for new, difficult or unusual tasks, and is consulted when unusual/unfamiliar situations are encountered.
Essential functions include participating in the execution of the nursing process, observing, reporting and documenting physical and behavioral signs and symptoms indicative of change in patient's condition, reiterating and reinforcing instructions regarding medications, preparing and performing routine diagnostic/laboratory/therapeutic treatment procedures, collaborating and communicating effectively with the inter-disciplinary team, identifying emergencies, maintaining an organized and safe work and patient environment, participating in quality assurance/improvement initiatives, and performing other duties as assigned.
Minimum qualifications include graduation from an accredited Practical Nursing program or equivalent recognized military training upon hire and one year of related work experience in an acute care healthcare environment preferred. Required licensures and certifications include Licensed Practical Nurse: WA (LPN:WA) and Basic Life Support – CPR (BLS-CPR).
