Central Services Tech - Certified

We seek a dedicated and detail-oriented Central Sterile Technician to join our team during the second shift, with potential flexibility for shift coverage based on operational needs. The central sterile technician will be responsible for ensuring the proper handling, decontamination, assembly, sterilization, and transport of surgical instruments and medical equipment. This role is crucial for maintaining a safe and sterile environment for all surgical procedures and patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and manage the inventory and organization of code carts.
  • Ensure all emergency equipment is stocked, functional, and ready for immediate use.
  • Regularly check expiration dates and replace expired supplies promptly.

Decontamination:

  • Perform decontamination of surgical instruments, equipment, and materials following established protocols and safety guidelines.
  • Utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to ensure safety during decontamination processes.
  • Assist in maintaining records and logs related to decontamination processes.

Assembly:

  • Assemble surgical instruments and trays according to standardized procedures and preferences.
  • Verify accuracy and completeness of instrument sets before sterilization.
  • Follow strict guidelines for the handling and organization of instruments to prevent damage and ensure functionality.

Sterilization:

  • Operate and monitor sterilization equipment, including autoclaves and other sterilization devices.
  • Conduct and document routine tests on sterilization equipment to ensure compliance with safety and effectiveness standards.
  • Follow established protocols for handling sterile packages and ensuring proper storage.

Transport:

  • Safely transport sterile instruments and equipment to various departments within the facility, ensuring adherence to infection control procedures.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in all transport areas and storage spaces.

Communication and Collaboration:

  • Coordinate with surgical teams, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals to ensure timely and accurate instrument availability for procedures.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or issues to the supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge of best practices.

Inventory Management:

  • Assist in monitoring inventory levels of supplies and notify supervisors of any shortages or required restocking.
  • Help maintain a clean and orderly work environment to facilitate safe and efficient processing of instruments.

Certification:

  • Must become certified within one year of employment

Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required; certification as a Central Sterile Technician is preferred. Experience in central sterile processing or a related field is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with sterilization techniques, decontamination procedures, and infection control protocols.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills for effective teamwork.
  • Flexibility to work second shift, with potential adjustments to mid-shift based on workload demands.
  • Obtain certification within one year of employment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Capable of lifting and transporting materials and equipment weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to work in an environment involving exposure to various chemicals and sterilization equipment.
