Wanco Inc. is seeking a Sr. Backend Software Engineer in our Arvada, CO production facility. Summary: Responsible for the design and implementation of scalable and robust backend micro and monolithic services, inter-service communication architectures, protocols, and traversal efficiency. Build and maintain backend services and related tools to ensure optimal performance and functional efficiency. Oversees the documentation of all development activity. Trains non-technical personnel. Integrates knowledge of business and functional priorities. Acts as a key contributor in a complex and crucial environment. May lead teams or projects and share expertise.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in software development, including system architecture, monoliths, microservices, and inter-service communication - 7+ years of experience with Rails versions 6, 7, and 8, including API mode - 5+ years of experience with MySQL / MariaDB / Postgres - 3+ years of experience with Node (JavaScript / TypeScript) - 3+ years of experience with AWS cloud services (EC2, VPC, RDS, S3, Lambda, etc) - 2+ years of experience with Access Control methodologies (authentication / authorization, TFA, passkeys, etc)
- Lead the design and implementation of scalable and robust backend microservices and monolithic service improvements. - Research and stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in Rails, Node, Typescript, AWS and other relevant web technologies, providing guidance to the team on leveraging new technologies and methodologies. - Collaborate with cross-functional and frontend teams to define system requirements and ensure seamless integration of backend services with frontend systems. - Develop high-quality, efficient, and reliable software services using Rails, Docker, Node, TypeScript, AWS, Git, and other applicable technologies and languages. - Work with frontend and embedded software teams towards developing integrated product solutions.
- Leverage AWS services and system architectures to optimize backend service performance and functionality. - Monitor and manage AWS resources to ensure cost-efficiency and performance.
- Implement robust client/user Access Control and AWS security measures to protect data from unauthorized access, and tampering. - Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments of backend systems. - Participate in incident response and resolution for security-related issues. - Contribute to the development and maintenance of system administration procedures and documentation.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to a team of software engineers. - Oversee the development process, ensuring adherence to coding standards, best practices, and project timelines. - Manage and mentor development teams, providing technical guidance and support throughout the software development lifecycle. - Foster a collaborative and productive working environment for the team.
- Diagnose and resolve complex systems issues. - Monitor system performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Collaborates with project stakeholders to identify product and technical requirements. - Conducts analysis to determine needs. - Work with team to design new software and web applications, support applications under development, and customize current applications. - Conduct code review and provide feedback. - Develop software update process for existing applications. - Lead in the roll-out of software releases. - Oversees the researching, writing, and editing of documentation and technical requirements, including evaluation plans, test results, technical manuals, and formal recommendation and reports. - Keeps current with technological developments within the industry. Monitors and evaluates competitive applications and products. Reviews literature, patents, and current practices relevant to the solution of assigned projects. - Provide technical leadership throughout the design process and guidance about practices, procedures, and techniques. Serves as a guide and mentor for junior-level Software Development Engineers. - Assists in tracking and evaluating performance metrics. Ensures the team delivers software on time, to specification, and within budget. - Works with the Quality Assurance team to determine if applications fit specifications and technical requirements. - Displays expertise in knowledge of engineering methodologies, concepts, and skills and their application in the area of software development. - Displays expertise in process design and redesign skills. Presents and defends architectural, design, and technical choices to internal audiences. - Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance. - Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Salary Range: $140,000 - $170,000 per year based on qualifications Benefits: Insurance (Medical, Dental, Life, 401k). Paid time off and holidays Eligible to participate in Wanco's standard benefit package
