Program Coordinator

The program coordinator is administratively responsible for the Program of General Caregiver Support Services (PGCSS) in the Caregiver Support Program, providing treatment to Veterans and their families/caregivers. The program coordinator may be the sole practitioner in this specialty at the facility and typically provides direct patient care services, oversees the daily operation of the program, develops policies and procedures for program operation, and prepares reports. Responsibilities include developing and establishing linkages and collaborating on VA Caregiver Support efforts with community healthcare and social service agencies, providing referrals to VA medical and mental health treatment and other VA services, serving as a liaison between the VA and community agencies, participating in caregiver support activities in the local community and state, providing outreach presentations, promoting the VA Caregiver Support Program, serving as a consultant for information on negotiating complex processes, staying abreast of current federal and state legislation, developing and fostering relationships with community partners, providing consultation and support to colleagues, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, establishing and maintaining education programs, and conducting caregiver and family clinical interventions. The position requires a competitive salary, paid time off, parental leave, child care subsidy, retirement benefits, insurance, and occasional light to moderate physical activity. The position is not authorized for telework or permanent change of station but may be discussed during the interview process. The position requires a valid state driver's license and local travel to provide community-based care to Veterans. The position also requires close visual acuity, patience, and control of emotions. The position requires a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education, licensure or certification by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level, and experience in program coordination and administration. The position is in the Excepted Service and does not confer competitive status.
