Description of Work Unit: The CEE Department at CSU is recognized both nationally and internationally for its research, education, and service and outreach programs and is ranked in the top 40 CEE programs in the USA. The CEE Department comprises 33 faculty, 6 research scientists/scholars, 17 research associates, and 12 administrative professionals. Our faculty are leaders in interdisciplinary research and education and collaborate with faculty in the Atmospheric Science Department, School of Global Environmental Sustainability, the Natural Resources Ecology Laboratory, and the Ecosystem Science and Sustainability Department among others, and with researchers around the world. Annual research expenditures by the CEE Department have averaged $14.5M since 2016, including interdisciplinary research and education programs like the NSF U-WIN Center, CLEAN Center, NSF InterFEWS, and the NIST Center for Risk-Based Community Resilience Planning. The Department of Construction Management is one of the largest construction management programs in the country with approximately 800 undergraduate students, 20 graduate students, 20 faculty, and 7 professional staff. The undergraduate program is accredited by the American Council for Construction Education. Academic advising, internship and career placement support are provided by professional staff. The Department engages in teaching, scholarly, and outreach activities to promote the development of knowledge and skills related to construction management. The Department's facilities include over 36,000 square feet in dedicated labs (physical testing and computer), classrooms, and offices to support its research, teaching, and service mission. CEE and CM Partnership: As Construction Engineering is a new degree program within the CEE Department, CSU has developed a unique partnership with the CM Department to develop curriculum, educate and develop students building on the strengths of both programs. This degree program is designed for students who seek a career in management, engineering, business leadership or operations in the construction industry. Students graduating from this program will be able to solve complex technical and managerial problems throughout construction of the built environment. Students will also develop skills that deliver construction programs in a safe, ethical, socially responsible and sustainable manner. Construction Engineering graduates can choose to pursue Professional Engineering licensure upon graduation and obtaining the requisite years of professional experience.

Position Summary: The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at Colorado State University (CSU) seeks a full-time non-tenure track faculty member at the rank of Instructor or Teaching Assistant Professor to teach courses across the newly developed Construction Engineering Bachelor of Science (BS) program and the existing Civil Engineering BS program. The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate instruction in one or both programs, depending on their area of expertise and departmental needs. Colorado State University is building a top-ranked Construction Engineering program that will marry management and business savvy with technical engineering expertise. Our program has a unique partnership with industry leaders and is enthusiastically supported by university leadership. Through strong collaboration between the Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering (WSCoE) and the College of Health and Human Sciences (CHHS), the program leverages existing strengths in the CEE and Construction Management (CM) Departments to deliver a second to none student experience. The program welcomed its first cohort of students in fall 2025 and will apply for ABET accreditation upon their graduation. Thoughtfully designed to create a premier program valued by both students and industry, the CSU Construction Engineering program will have a competitive advantage over peer institutions with expert faculty, strong industry participation, dedicated staff, and innovative learning spaces, all of which are crucial to success. Instructor/Teaching Assistant Professor Position Responsibilities Effort: 90% Teaching, 10% Service (There is potential for research effort to be incorporated after hiring, if desired.) The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses that are technical in nature and industry focused that prepare students for professional careers in the engineering or construction industry and related fields; engage with student organizations and mentor student competition teams; and participate in service activities that advance the mission of the department, the college, and the university. Exemplary service activities include serving on departmental, college, or university committees and contributing to departmental initiatives, policies, and strategic planning efforts.
