Who You Are: We're looking for an exceptional leader to serve as our Software Lead and Software Manager, a critical role in shaping the overall technical direction of our C2 Ground programs. As an ideal candidate, you will have a background in software architecture, technical leadership, and proven experience leading teams and guiding technical efforts. You will work directly with domain and industry experts and technical staff that design and implement systems that are integrated into Lockheed Martin "Skunkworks" deliveries.

As part of the C2 Ground Team the selected candidate will be the Software Development Lead leading approximately 15 to 20 direct reports and oversee approximately 40 software engineers on multiple projects within the C2 Ground products.

The Work Responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring the organization's staff is meeting program and business commitments and working with the Program Leadership team to drive Program Execution.
  • Manage the staffing and resource allocation. This includes recruiting and hiring candidates.
  • Maintaining/Updating Software Development Plans and Software SOPs. Ensuring that the Software team understands and follows plans and procedures.
  • Guide/mentor the team on how to do conduct business with our customers, define processes, improve when needed
  • Gather, Analyze, and use software and EVM metrics in both waterfall and agile program execution
  • Create SW development schedules and ensure the team executes to the schedule
  • Interface w/ Program Mgmt, CAMs, Project Engineers, other discipline leaders, and customers over priorities, milestones and deliveries
  • Preparing Software Estimating through BOEs
  • Insert Digital Transformation initiatives into software development execution (AI, DevSecOps, Software Factory, Agile)

Basic Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and behaviors that align with the Full Spectrum Leadership Imperatives
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience planning and coordinating software development in a team-oriented environment
  • Knowledgeable in Software Engineering Process and Tools, including experience in executing in both Agile and Waterfall methodologies.
  • Experience across the Software Development Life Cycle

Desired Skills:

  • Previous Functional Manager responsibilities
  • Previous experience working on large scale networked systems is highly desired
  • Development experience under a mature SEI CMMI quality system
  • Knowledge of LM and program processes and procedures
  • Experience with software estimating tools (SEER-SEM or COCOMO), metrics identification and collection
  • Experience with any/each of the following is highly desirable:
    • DevSecOps tools such as Eyesight, Jenkins, Git/BitBucket, JIRA, and Confluence
    • Familiarity with virtualization, containerization, and microservice architectures/technologies
    • Experience with Software Development Lifecycles in a DOD environment
    • Experience in Planning – Staff, tools (SW Dev tools), Have the ability to provide a Software Development Plan (SDP)
    • Knowledgeable of practices, artifacts (UML diagrams, requirement database), documentation, Software Requirements Specification (SRS), Interface Requirements Specification (IRS), Interface Control Document (ICD)
    • Knowledgeable of practices, artifacts (UML diagrams, models), documentation Software Design Document (SDD), IDD, DBDD)
    • Knowledgeable of Operations and Maintenance (O&M) – practices such as break/fix and enhancements to customers, tracking Problem Reports to closure, CM
    • Understand Software Metrics (SLOC, Defects, Productivity) – gathering, analyzing, and using
    • Experience with Software Scheduling and Microsoft Project

  • Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.
  • Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
  • Schedule for this Position: 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week
  • Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California, Massachusetts, and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $113,900 - $200,905. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate's final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.

(Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year. This position is incentive plan eligible.
