Observability Platform Engineer

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Observability Platform Engineer to help scale and enhance our enterprise-wide observability capabilities. This role focuses on the development and support of tools like Elastic APM, Open Telemetry (OTEL), and Mimir, enabling visibility into over 10,000+ services and microservices across the organization.

You'll be part of a collaborative team building high-traffic infrastructure, improving monitoring and alerting systems, and enabling teams to access and act on observable data with ease.

In this role, you will:

  • Design, build, and maintain infrastructure for capturing and analyzing observability data at scale.
  • Enhance monitoring and alerting systems to ensure reliability and performance.
  • Develop reusable deployment pipelines to streamline observability adoption across teams.
  • Collaborate with application teams to implement consistent, scalable observability patterns.
  • Share progress, key features, and accomplishments with leadership and stakeholders.

Required Skills: What you need to be considered

  • 1+ year of development experience in a compiled language (Go or Python preferred).
  • Experience deploying infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform).
  • Proficiency in Unix/Linux system administration.
  • Familiarity with cloud-native deployment practices, including:
    • Kubernetes
    • Networking and certificate management
    • CI/CD pipelines
    • Security best practices
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred skills: What will help you stand out

  • Experience building and maintaining Helm charts.
  • Hands-on experience with containerized environments.
  • Background in working with diverse application teams and technology stacks.
  • Experience presenting technical concepts to leadership.
  • Familiarity with observability tools (both open-source and commercial).

Salary and Other Compensation:

The annual salary for this position is between $49,001 to $107,000 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

This position is also eligible for Cognizant's discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant's applicable plans.
