Research Engineer - MRI & Brain Study

As a Research Engineer supporting MRI acquisition and analysis for the Cleveland Clinic Brain Study, you will divide your time between performing MRI scans of brain images and working with the resulting data. Responsibilities include processing and pipelining imaging data, conducting data quality checks, coordinating scans and determining patient eligibility. You will also analyze, investigate and plan specific engineering criteria, characteristics and features to achieve project goals.

A caregiver in this role works a day/evening rotation from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. with weekend requirements.

Sunday shifts are from 12:00 p.m. -- 8:00 p.m. (two per month) and Saturday shifts are from 8:00 a.m. -- 4:00 p.m. (one per month)

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Analyze, investigate and plan specific engineering criteria, characteristics and features to meet assignment goals.
  • Perform routine engineering investigations in support of current research or product development efforts using engineering software analysis tools.
  • Prepare design sketches or drawings for components, sub-assemblies, processes or equipment using CAD or 3-D solid modeling software.
  • Assist with the design, development and evaluation of prototype medical devices, equipment and software.
  • Assist with the preparation and evaluation of test protocols and test specimens.
  • Prepare charts, graphs and documentation in support of articles for publication, project reports and grant applications.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Bachelor of Science in biomedical, mechanical, or electrical engineering or in a related field.
  • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Previous experience and completion of a co-op or internship.
  • Engineering background.
  • Interest in working directly with patients.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods.
  • Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment.
  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
  • Ability to distinguish color.
  • Manual dexterity to handle specimens and repair equipment.
  • Ability to lift and transport equipment or specimens weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, bio-hazards, radioactive materials, etc.
