Tenancy Support Specialist

Housing and Neighborhood Preservation, a department with the City of Virginia Beach, connects people to resources to help them obtain, maintain or sustain housing in vibrant, well-maintained neighborhoods. Our Homeless Services division is seeking a motivated, compassionate, customer-service oriented individual to fill the role of a Tenancy Support Specialist.

The Tenancy Support Specialist (TSS) plays an integral role in helping clients navigate the housing process. TSS will match households to available properties in our housing database and go on housing tours with households, help complete housing applications, collect paperwork from landlords to work towards a move-in, provide lease review & education, help establish utilities and renter's insurance prior to move-in, and attend the lease signing. The TSS will work and collaborate with HNP case workers and HNP landlord engagement specialists. TSS will also be connected to the landlord during the households' tenancy if issues arise and in return will provide the information to the assigned case worker to address and follow up.

The successful candidate must demonstrate the following:

• Ability to work well under pressure
• Experience connecting clients to available community resources
• Knowledge of lease agreements and the Landlord Tenant Act
• Ability to advocate for the rights and needs of clients
• Experience mediating between landlords and tenants
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

The TSS must also:

• be able to drive a city vehicle
• use computers and web-based applications proficiently
• have documentation skills
