Parking Management, Facilities, and Capital Projects Unit plays a vital role in the development, management, and operation of the City's municipal parking infrastructure. The unit is responsible for managing 8 multi-level parking garages and 30 municipal parking fields across the city. We oversee structural inspections, capital projects, contract administration, and sustainability initiatives at parking facilities. Our mission is to integrate sustainability practices and environmental safety into municipal parking facilities. We are seeking an Assistant Environmental Engineer to assist with a variety of sustainability and environmental initiatives. The candidate will assist in planning and implementing sustainable engineering solutions for new and existing municipal parking facilities. The successful candidate will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to carry out the following responsibilities: Manage chemical inventory in stock rooms and ensure proper storage and disposal of hazardous materials in accordance with applicable state and federal regulations. Oversee sewer and catch basin cleaning and environmental maintenance in parking fields. Review material safety data sheets and ensure facilities meet environmental and fire protection codes. Assist with the design and installation of EV charging infrastructure in off-street parking facilities. Review plans, technical proposals, construction documents, and drawings for sustainability projects in parking garages. Prepare estimates, specifications, technical memos, drawings, and maps for environmentally related capital or maintenance projects. Coordinate with consultants, contractors, and other city agencies to support the successful execution of green infrastructure and parking improvement projects. Conduct facility inspections and performance evaluations for EV chargers, as well as track and report data related to energy use and EV charging performance. Support other environmental improvement projects such as lighting upgrades and drainage system improvement. Conduct research, field assessments, and engineering studies for environmental initiatives. Support sustainability reporting, permitting processes, and other related compliance work. Review contracts and ensure contract compliance. Some assignments may require a driver's license. Preference will be given to candidates who possess a driver's license valid in the state of New York. This license must be maintained throughout the duration of appointment in this position. Work Location: 34-02 Queens Boulevard, Long Island City, NY 11101 Hours/Shift 35 Hours / Mon-Fri, 7am-3pm
1. A baccalaureate degree in environmental, chemical, mechanical, petroleum, aeronautical, or materials engineering from an accredited college or university and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in environmental engineering work; or 2. A baccalaureate degree in environmental, chemical, mechanical, petroleum, aeronautical, or materials engineering from an accredited college and master's degree in environmental engineering from an accredited college. A master's degree in environmental engineering from an accredited college can only be used to substitute for one year of full-time satisfactory work experience in environmental engineering.
