The NYCDOT seeks three (3) Assistant Electrical Engineers to join the Traffic Management Center unit within the Traffic Operations divisions. The unit is 24/7 operations including holidays and weekends. The selected candidate will be assigned to a specific shift, under general supervision of the TMC shift supervisor will perform highly technical engineering work including monitoring and troubleshooting problems related to the maintenance of 13,900 traffic signals, working with maintenance contractors via radio communication to troubleshoot traffic signal failures to restore proper operations that are critical to ensure proper flow of traffic and the safety of the public. Troubleshoot of the wireless communication used in conjunction with traffic signals and coordinate with the service provider and their sub-contractor, check the status and the health of the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) equipment, prepare and provide report to management and to in-house maintenance shops, provide technical support. Utilize the agency video surveillance system and other vehicle detection technology tools to manage traffic incidents citywide including monitoring work zones, severe weather conditions that may impede traffic flow and coordinate the response to traffic incidents with first responders and other city and state agencies in the metropolitan region. The individuals may work different shifts, nights, weekends and holidays and will report directly to the shift supervisor.
Work Location: 28-11 Queens Plaza North, LIC, NY 11101 Hours/Shift: 35hrs/Shift TBD Preferred Skills: - Strong computer skills in the use of software programs including MS Excel, MS word, MS Outlook, MS Access. - Preferred Knowledge of TransSuite TCS (Traffic Control System management software) - Familiar with Intelligence Transportation System (ITS) Control management software - Knowledge of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) and traffic management systems technology and applications. - Ability to maintain records and prepare reports related to the work. - Ability to communicate effectively with others
Qualifications: 1. A baccalaureate degree in electrical engineering from an accredited college or university and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in electrical engineering work; or 2. A baccalaureate degree in electrical engineering from an accredited college and a master's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited college or university. A master's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited college or university can only be used to substitute for one year of full-time satisfactory work experience in electrical engineering. A degree in any other engineering area, or in any engineering technology area, is not acceptable.
