Supervises a small to medium sized operational unit of non-exempt employees. The functional activities are somewhat complex and have moderate impact on overall operations. This level supervises employees in clerical, administrative, trade, or technical functions that provide services to persons inside or outside the organization. The substance of the positions is non-routine and is semi-skilled or skilled in nature and has a direct impact on the work, office operations, projects, or programs of others in the organization. Supervises the daily operation of clerical/administrative or installation/maintenance crews. Work time will be spent performing the type of work supervised.
Overview
The Electrical Supervisor supervises, monitors, and performs electrical work for various departments. Inspects work and provides experienced technical assistance and direction.
Essential Functions
1. Supervises, administers, and supports the electrician technicians performing electrical work for the City; delegates authority and responsibility for assigned tasks to subordinates; plans, implements, coordinates, monitors compliance, and evaluates policies and procedures; reviews and oversees work schedules of others all subordinate levels.
2. Recruits, hires, trains, and facilitates the success of electricians; oversees performance evaluations, feedback, disciplinary actions, and professional development; processes and approves payroll and supervises the handling of personnel issues and resolving conflict.
3. Analyzes, evaluates, and ensures daily goals are met in a timely manner and works to increase productivity; oversees the preparation of and evaluates, implements, and administers the department budget; tracks and oversees revenue and expenses while monitoring electrical projects.
4. Manages equipment, inventory, tool, and material inventory; ensures availability of appropriate equipment to ensure effective operations.
5. Provides quality customer service and competent public interaction; resolves issues and concerns, addresses complaints, and collaborates with other staff to address problems.
6. Checks and cleans equipment daily to ensure proper, safe operation; identifies issues that need greater attention, provides technical expertise for challenging electrical projects, and assumes responsibility for completion of electrical work.
7. Provides leadership for special projects and events throughout the City; monitors and supervises electrical equipment to ensure effective operation and service throughout the City.
8. Performs any and all other trades work as needed or assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
1. Knowledge of electrical maintenance, repair, installation, and safety.
2. Knowledge of electrical codes and regulations.
3. Ability to supervise, lead, and provide technical expertise to other electricians.
4. Ability to prioritize work, estimate projects, and perform project management.
5. Ability to read various complex schematic diagrams and blueprints.
6. Ability to use and instruct in various types of hand tools, power tools, precision testing and/or troubleshooting equipment.
7. Ability to understand technical terminology of the specialization assigned.
