Leads the definition and deployment of solution architectures, conducts the analysis of alternative architectures, creating architecture standards, defines processes to ensure conformance to standards, develops solutions cost-of ownership, and promotes clear and consistent architectural vision.
The DWU Information Technology Architect plays a critical role in designing and managing systems that monitor and control SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems for industrial water and wastewater processes. The SCADA Architect leads the definition and deployment of solution architectures, analyzes alternatives, and establishes standards, ensuring compliance, optimizing cost-of ownership, and promoting a clear, consistent IT vision within the OT environment.
1. Articulates, communicates, and presents scalability, availability, manageability, robustness, and appropriate incorporation of new technology of architecture and design through models, documentation, and reference architectures in a manner that demonstrates business value; uses and employs business/data models, documentation, technology landscape repository, technology reference architectures, and whitepapers.
2. In collaboration with external design consultants, designs and plans the architecture of SCADA systems for monitoring and controlling industrial processes throughout the organization's various facilities.
3. Create a detailed plan for data flow and communication between different devices and systems within the SCADA environment.
4. Oversee the setup and optimization of communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, DNP3, OPC) to ensure efficient data transmission and interoperability between devices.
5. Design and implement robust security solutions to protect SCADA systems from cyber threats, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations (e.g., NERC CIP, ISA/IEC 62443, NIST 800-82).
6. Work closely with engineering, IT, and operational teams to ensure seamless integration and functionality across the SCADA ecosystem.
7. Keep SCADA systems in compliance with industry standards such as ISA-95, ISA-99, and ISA/IEC 62443 for automation and cybersecurity.
8. Interviews technical and business teams to gather relevant information to facilitate architectural requirements definitions.
9. Assists in the development of the IT Technology plan within the OT environment including the discovery, strategy, design, and engineering of IT/OT technology to provide a secured, robust, reliable, and efficient infrastructure; crafts and creates long term technology investment strategies and roadmaps and discovers new and emerging technologies.
10. Works with the development team to refine the solution architecture and interface with the development team to resolve functional and technical issues as systems are developed.
