The City of Charlotte's Aviation Department – Development Division Engineering Summer Internship Program is designed to recruit diverse college students majoring in Civil Engineering, Surveying, Environmental Science, Construction Management, or related disciplines. The program provides full-time employment during the summer and offers students real life job experiences. We are seeking talented students with strong technical and interpersonal skills in the following disciplines: airport planning and design, surveying, construction, and utility relocation.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
The City of Charlotte Aviation Department is seeking an individual for the position of Civil Engineering Intern. This individual will work under the supervision of the Airport Engineer or designee. The selected candidate will assist project managers in the development of future airport projects, assist inspection staff in field inspection of airfield and roadway projects under construction, participate in coordination of resolving conflicts between existing utility facilities and proposed public works projects, and complete various administrative tasks as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates must have graduated from high school and be currently enrolled in an engineering, engineering technology, environmental science, construction management, surveying, or related program. Position requires good driving record, valid driver's license, ability to receive and maintain a City Driving Permit (Please note that in order to receive a City Driving Permit, employees must have their license for a minimum of two years).
Physical Demands:
• Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, standing, climbing, or walking extended periods of time• Light to moderate lifting and carrying; some crouching, stooping, squatting, crawling, reaching, pushing, and pulling when performing tasks• Adequate vision, hearing, and speech required
Sensory Requirements:
• Concentrated and attentive use of one or more senses (visual, audio, and other sensory modalities) for proof reading, data entry, tabulating data• Ability to operate in an environment with frequent interruptions from people and or noises, which in return could result in some level of stress, fatigue, or strain• Comprehensive of written information in work related documents• Ability to hear, understand and distinguish speech
