Wastewater Operations Technician II Pumping

Salary Range: $58,537.00 - $76,379.00 Annually

Hiring Salary Range: $58,537.00 – $67,458.00 Annually

Job Summary:

A Wastewater Operations Technician II Pumping operates and inspects pumps, valves, bar screens and other wastewater pumping station equipment. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities.

Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a rotating shift with evening, night, weekend, holiday and callback hours as required or held over until properly relieved or for emergencies. Work is performed in a wastewater pumping station where there is regular exposure to toxic chemicals, noxious odors and high voltage equipment. Work requires moderate physical exertion.

Minimum Qualifications:

On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate.

AND

Experience: Have three years of experience in the operation, maintenance and minor repair of water or wastewater pumping equipment; or completion of the City's wastewater apprenticeship program.

Licenses, Registrations, and Certificates: Have a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license or an equivalent driver's license and eligible to obtain a Baltimore City driver's permit. PROVISIONAL DRIVER'S LICENSE OR LEARNER PERMITS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE.

NOTE: YOU MUST UPLOAD A COPY OF YOUR VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE WITH APPLICATION AT TIME OF APPLYING.

Employees are required to hold and maintain a valid Temporary State of Maryland Operator's Class 2 Wastewater Collections Certificate, issued by the Board of Waterworks and Waste Systems Operators, throughout employment.

NOTE: No further testing is required at the completion of the City's wastewater apprenticeship program

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the operation, maintenance and minor repair of pumps, motors and related equipment.
  • Knowledge of wastewater pumping systems.
  • Knowledge of circuits and alarm systems.
  • Skill in the use of common hand tools.
  • Ability to complete routine records.
  • Ability to take and record readings from gauges and meters.

Background Check

Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.

Probation

All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-month probation.

Eligibility

Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.

Education Accreditation

Applicants' education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. Evaluation agencies information may be obtained at www.naces.org.

Examination Process
