A CDL Driver I drives and operates vehicles such as automobiles, vans, buses, panel or pick-up trucks, tandem dump and/or log trucks, front-end loaders, small backhoes, tow trucks, mechanical sweepers, and other 2 ½ to 6 ton trucks or other vehicles of similar weighted complexity and performs laboring tasks and performs moderately difficult electrical work involving the installation, maintenance and repair of street lighting and related equipment. Works of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities.
Minimum qualifications: Graduation from and accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate and one to two years of experience in operating automobiles, vans, buses, panel or pick-up trucks, tandem dump and/or log trucks, front-end loaders, small backhoes, tow trucks, mechanical sweepers, and other 2 ½ to 6 ton trucks or other vehicles of similar weighted complexity, or one year of experience in electrical maintenance, installation or repair of exterior lighting systems or building construction electrical work. Equivalencies: Three years of experience operating heavy equipment vehicles.
Licenses, registrations and certificates: A valid Maryland Class A or B Commercial driver's license, or an equivalent out-of-state driver's license acceptable to the Office of Risk Management is required and eligibility to obtain a Baltimore City driver's permit is required. Note: In The Department of Transportation: Some positions require just a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license, or an equivalent out-of-state driver's license acceptable to the Office of Risk Management. Note: Some positions in this classification will require eligible candidates who are under final consideration for appointment to authorize the release of criminal conviction information. Note: Some positions in this class will require the employee to provide their own hand tools.
Background check: Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.
Probation: All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-months probation.
Eligibility: Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.
