Network Engineering Team Opportunity

This is an excellent opportunity to bring your talents to Cisco's Network Engineering team that builds the foundational software that powers the world's largest, web scaler and service provider networks. This dynamic team develops and supports communication networks and actively engages with all teams across Cisco to leverage solutions.

The Platform Independent Common (PI-Common) group drives the PI software for Cisco's flagship routers and switches. We develop high-performance system software for various Cisco platforms, including Enterprise Switching & Routers, Datacenter Switches, and Service Provider Routing Platforms. We're looking for passionate engineers who thrive on solving complex problems, building distributed systems, and working hands-on with real-world infrastructure.

Our team develops networking software for one of the most advanced network operating systems in the world. We focus on several platform-independent components, including system/infra software, OAM, manageability, and serviceability infra software, collaborating closely with platform development teams to enable the software stack on current and future platforms. The team works with technologies such as virtualization infra, application hosting, and serviceability infrastructure software, as well as emerging technologies in data models, telemetry integration, and routing innovations like segment routing and mobile IP.

Minimum Qualifications:

• B.E./B.Tech in Computer Science, ECE, or a related field
• 5–9 years of software development experience
• Strong proficiency in C programming in multi-threaded, embedded environments
• Experience in developing Layer 2 (Ethernet) and/or Layer 3 Networking protocols, including Routing, IPV4/6 (unicast/multicast)
• Solid grasp of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, multicast, switching, forwarding)
• Experience working with or developing for IOS-XR or similar network operating systems
• Strong understanding of OS internals, IPC, memory management, and HA systems
• Familiarity with YANG, SNMP, or model-driven telemetry
• Experience in scripting with Python
• Strong problem-solving and debugging skills
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in any Cisco OS – XR, XE, or NXOS is a plus.
• Exposure to open-source tools, network automation, or configuration frameworks
• Prior experience building infrastructure at scale
