Aerodynamic Engineer 1
The Aerodynamics Engineer I works within the Product Development group and the Sustaining teams to provide mass property tracking and estimates. New projects will require analytical methods to be developed for the prediction of weight and center of gravity properties as well as design guidance for achieving the objectives of the project that relate to weight. The Aerodynamic Engineer I is also responsible for the tracking of production weights and identifying anomalies to ensure an acceptable end product with respect to weight and center of gravity. This position will interface with a wide variety of functions and programs across the company and requires good interpersonal skills.
Duties and Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
- Provide aircraft preliminary weight and mass distribution estimates for center of gravity for conceptual designs.
- Perform trade studies and suggestions for weight saving efforts and efficiencies.
- Establish weight and center of gravity target breakdowns for new projects.
- Track weight and center of gravity estimates over time for new projects.
- Track weight and center of gravity measurements during prototype and experimental builds, using CAD Creo.
- Reconcile differences between experimental builds and expected type design weights, using excel or computer programming softwares.
- Support flight test ballasting requirements and final weighing.
- Track production weights including implementation of new projects into production and their effect on weight and center of gravity.
- Create and maintain a bottom up weight roll-up for each SR2x, SR50 or SR10 platform.
- Provide detailed mass property information for loads, performance, and flutter analysis using excel and programming database system.
- Identify source of production weight anomalies and engage in determining corrective action.
Qualifications:
- B.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering required.
- 0-2 years of experience required.
- Proficient in MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint required.
- Proficient in computer programming required (Fortran, Python, and VBA experience).
- Required familiarity with engineering drawings, CAD creo10 software, Linux OS, and python and Bash Shell scripting languages.
- Preferred: Member of Society of Allied Weight Engineers (SAWE)
- Preferred: Proficient in writing excel macros
- Preferred: Exposure to Part 23 and/or Part 25 FAA federal regulations.
