Lead Systems Engineer

Cimarron is seeking a Lead Systems Engineer to support the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) on the Integrated Research and Development for Enterprise Solutions (IRES) contract at Schriever Space Force Base in the Colorado Springs, CO area.

Key Duties:

  • Establish, implement, and continuously improve the Systems Engineering (SE) program to align with organizational strategy and enterprise governance.
  • Serve as the technical authority for SE practices and act as the primary liaison with senior leadership, program managers, and governance boards.
  • Promote a culture of collaboration, innovation, and process improvement across the SE team.
  • Provide matrix leadership for systems engineers supporting multiple projects.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop SE team members through technical guidance, performance feedback, and professional growth opportunities.
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing, peer reviews, and skill-development workshops.
  • Oversee project SE support, ensuring requirements, design, and verification activities are executed effectively and remain traceable to operational needs.
  • Partner with project managers, engineers, CM analysts, and stakeholders to integrate SE best practices into design and delivery.
  • Develop and monitor metrics and KPIs to assess SE program performance.
  • Integrate SE practices with organizational quality management and configuration management frameworks.

Required Skills, Experience, and Education:

  • This position requires access to federal facilities. Candidates must possess a valid, unexpired Real ID-compliant driver's license or state-issued identification card at the time of hire.   • Ability to complete a pre-employment background check and drug screening, which will include but is not limited to testing for marijuana use.
  • Active Secret Clearance (or higher).
  • Strong leadership skills with a proven ability to mentor and develop engineers.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence across organizational boundaries.
  • Demonstrated experience with full lifecycle systems engineering (SE) practices, including requirements, architecture, integration, verification, and validation.
  • Experience developing SE governance frameworks and process documentation.
  • 12 or more years of general, full-time work experience.
  • 8 or more years of relevant systems engineering experience.
  • 2 or more years of experience in a lead or supervisory role.

Desired Skills, Experience, and Education:

  • Experience supporting facilities projects, including building systems, utilities, infrastructure, or related domains.
  • Experience implementing Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) for facilities or infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of DoDAF, SysML, or other architecture frameworks and modeling languages.
  • Familiarity with organizational change management in technical environments.
  • Experience with metrics-driven program improvement and data-informed decision-making.
