About the Program: The SU Employment Service program provides a comprehensive, person-centered service that bridges the gap between behavioral health services and employment services. The program focuses on reducing barriers, enhancing job readiness, fostering supportive employer relationships and ultimately promoting long-term recovery through economic self-sufficiency. This program is an evidenced-based supported employment service to promote and expand employment opportunities for individuals who use DMHAS services who have substance use disorders or co-occurring disorders of mental health and substance use disorders.

About the Position: Employment Specialist

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conducts assessments to identify employment and educational needs.
  • Collaborates with individuals to create individualized, person-centered treatment plans and documents clients progress during treatment.
  • Uses motivational interventions to assist clients in meeting their goals and moving along their paths to recovery, utilizing stage wise interventions.
  • Establishes rapport with employers in the community to develop a network to provide employment opportunities.
  • Maintains documentation in compliance with agency and program standards.
  • Participates in staff meetings, supervision, trainings and other meetings as assigned.
  • Additional duties as required.

Following apply based on specific program expectation:

  • Support individual with linking and engaging with natural (family, friends) or community supports
  • Develop crisis plans for clients and work with other staff to respond to crisis situations as needed
  • Provide skills teaching, such as assisting clients in obtaining/ maintaining housing and utilities; learning how to use transportation services, planning and preparing nutritional meals, engage and communicate with family and friends, be safe in the community, care for children and other family members, and solve everyday problems that arise.
  • Provide intensive skill building interventions and support for self-management, self-advocacy, health and well-being, relapse prevention, and using community resources
  • Participate in family education and support activities

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelors in human services, rehabilitation, or occupational therapy.
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years experience working with individuals with substance abuse and/or co-occurring mental health issues. Minimum 6 months experience in employment/education and/or psychosocial rehabilitation. Individuals who identify themselves as having a mental illness or substance abuse are encouraged to apply.
  • Licensure/Certification/Registration: Valid driver's license. Advocacy Unlimited: Recovery Support Certification recommended for individuals who identify themselves as having a mental illness or substance abuse

Compensation: $18.00/hr minimum, and up commensurate upon experience.
