Department Overview: The special care nursery in Minneapolis is a 33-bed, 24-room unit and is part of the Mother Baby Center at Abbott Northwestern and Children's Minnesota Minneapolis Hospital. The special care nursery team cares for babies who are 32 weeks and older and require a higher level of care than the newborn nursery provides, as well as full-term babies who may be sick, have an anomaly or are transitioning from the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) to home. We care for these babies and their families and provide education to help them learn how to care for their baby at home. Our team of nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, physical therapists, neonatologists and nurse practitioners work together to provide a supportive and nurturing environment for the patients, families and staff. Position Summary: Provides safe patient care as delegated by licensed nursing staff and maintains equipment and supplies per unit standard. Completed a nursing assistant course or equivalent experience, or completed a nursing or health care related clinical practicum course. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Education High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Experience One year of previous Nursing Assistant experience or equivalent experience preferred. Skills and Abilities Proficient communication, critical thinking, and prioritization skills required. Strong organizational skills. Excellent customer service skills. Must be able to read, write, and speak effectively in English to perform functions of the position. Skills in basic computer operation.

The posted salary represents a market competitive range based on salary survey benchmark data for similar roles in the local or national market. Annual salaries displayed are based on full-time employment (40 standard hrs per week). Annual salaries for part-time positions will be prorated based on the employee's scheduled weekly hours in relation to the full-time standard. When determining individual pay rates, we carefully consider a wide range of factors including but not limited to market indicators for the specific role, the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate, internal equity and organizational needs. In addition to your salary, this position may be eligible for medical, dental, vision, retirement, and other fringe benefits. Positions that require night, weekend or on-call work may be eligible for shift differentials or premium pay.
