Deputy Service Manager – West Sussex

Lead Change. Inspire Recovery. Transform Lives.

At Change Grow Live, we believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to change the direction of their life, grow as an individual, and live life to its full potential.

Every day, our teams work alongside people facing some of the most complex challenges imaginable — substance use, mental health difficulties, trauma, homelessness, social exclusion and recovery barriers — helping them rediscover hope, stability and possibility.

We do this by being Open, Compassionate and Bold.

We are now looking for an exceptional Deputy Service Manager to help lead our West Sussex drug and alcohol service — someone who can inspire people, lead with compassion, and drive high-quality, person-centred services that genuinely change lives.

This is more than an operational management role. It is an opportunity to shape services, develop people, strengthen communities and make a lasting impact.

What You'll Bring

You will be someone who can lead with both confidence and humanity.

You may already be working within substance misuse services, or you may bring transferable leadership experience from health, social care, mental health, criminal justice, housing or another related field.

Most importantly, you will bring:

  • Strong leadership and people management skills
  • The ability to motivate, support and develop teams
  • Experience managing operational priorities within fast-paced services
  • Confidence working with complexity, risk and safeguarding responsibilities
  • A collaborative approach to partnership working
  • A passion for delivering high-quality, person-centred support
  • Resilience, emotional intelligence and a solutions-focused mindset

The service covers a large geographical area, so the ability and willingness to travel across West Sussex is essential.

Please see the full person specification for further details on the skills and experience required.

Hours: Full time, 37.5 hours per week

Contract Type: Permanent

Salary is subject to review in line with the 2025/26 pay award.

Please note: Full-time hours at Change Grow Live are 37.5 hours per week. For part-time roles, salary and payments will be pro rata based on contracted hours.

Direct applications only — we will not be engaging agencies for this vacancy.

Responsibilities

As Deputy Service Manager, you will work alongside the Service Manager and wider leadership team to lead the delivery of safe, effective and recovery-focused treatment services across West Sussex.

You will play a central role in creating a culture where both service users and staff can thrive — leading teams with empathy and accountability while driving performance, innovation and continuous improvement.

You will support the delivery of services that are trauma-informed, psychologically informed and built around the needs of the people accessing support. You will also work closely with partner agencies and stakeholders to strengthen pathways and improve outcomes across the wider system.

This is a highly visible leadership role where no two days are the same. You will support and motivate multidisciplinary teams, oversee operational performance, help maintain high standards of quality and safeguarding, and contribute to the ongoing growth and development of the service.

We are looking for someone who is confident leading people through challenge and change, while remaining grounded in compassion, inclusion and recovery.
