Distribution Resilience Engineer

Provide engineering and technical support services associated with the design, construction and operation of CenterPoint Energy's overhead & underground distribution system.

Essential Functions

1. Design and engineer plans for undergrounding existing electrical distribution facilities over freeways, and for the undergrounding of overhead electrical distribution facilities in the greater Houston area.
2. Design and engineer plans for delivering express underground electrical feeds to critical customers such as hospitals.
3. Design and engineer plans for reconductoring underground electrical cable.
4. Review and analyze site plans, plan and profile drawings, electric one-lines, and schematics completed by contract engineering resources.
5. Coordinate the design and installation of new underground facilities with consulting engineers, contractors and affected CenterPoint Energy departments.
6. Prepare work orders, easement documents, cost estimates, terms & condition packages and utility construction services agreements for electric service to customers.
7. Interpret and apply applicable codes and standards, both industry and company specific (i.e. National Electric Safety Code, National Electric Code, CenterPoint Energy Standards etc.).
8. Perform project management functions associated with contract engineering resources.
9. Communicate with contract engineering firms regarding design compliance to CenterPoint Energy Standards.
10. Evaluate material requirements for work orders, coordinate material purchases with Purchasing & Logistics and vendors, and develop and maintain project material schedules.
11. Manage multiple projects involving customers, contractors, and internal departments.
12. Field visits to obtain various measurements and data and for preconstruction meetings, as needed.
13. Gather and analyze data, perform engineering studies, prepare written reports, give oral presentations related to distribution systems.
14. Perform cable pulling and cable ampacity analysis to verify contract engineering resources' design & constructability.
15. Perform protective device coordination studies, motor start and fault current calculations.
16. Prepare new or revise engineering/technical specifications.

Education Description

• Requires an Electrical Engineering or Civil Engineering Degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience

• Requires a minimum two (2) plus years of experience in electrical or civil engineering field performing technical engineering work, including calculations, design and interpretation of technical documents; preferably in gas/utility or power generation.
