Mechanical Engineering Student Opportunity

During a one-year term at the Cenovus Minnedosa Ethanol Plant, the mechanical engineering student will play a key role in supporting plant operations through hands-on involvement in small-scale engineering projects, Management of Change (MOC) processes, and maintenance initiatives. The experience will provide exposure to industrial systems, project execution, and cross-functional collaboration.

What you'll do:
- Process Troubleshooting. Work with the team to identify and solve process inefficiencies, equipment failures and bottlenecks.
- Provide mechanical engineering support for maintenance activities when required.
- Complete technical reports, data collection, drawing markups and calculations.
- Utilize project management skills to execute projects.
- Collaborate with multiple stakeholders to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
- Manage and prioritize multiple projects throughout the work term.
- Utilize programs such as Microsoft Office, SAP, Adobe, Bluebeam, AutoCAD
- Utilize AI/machine learning techniques to analyze and interpret data.
Who you are:
- Legally authorized to work in Canada full-time for the duration of your work term and able to produce documentation upon application (e.g., work visa)
- Available to begin work in January 2026
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Critical thinker and ability to work independently with limited supervision in a fast-paced, high-performing, team environment
- Flexible to changing work demands and ability to prioritize
- Innovative, with a strong desire to learn and the ability to encourage new ways of looking at problems, processes or solutions
- Demonstrates collaboration by actively seeking out diverse people and organizations to collectively achieve business goals
- Excellent computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
- Understanding of key safety principles and demonstrated safety leadership

Education:
- Must be enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering Program Undergraduate Program at an accredited post-secondary institution at the time of intended work term and returning to full-time studies after the work term OR registered in an accredited post-secondary co-op or internship program for the duration of the work term
- Candidates currently enrolled in either a Masters or Ph.D. program at an accredited post-secondary institution may also be considered
- New graduates are not eligible for student opportunities.
Working Conditions:
- May include frequency of travel, sitting, standing, computer work, lifting, working at a site, etc.
Safety Sensitive:
- This may be a safety-sensitive role, and you will also be required to wear all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during required work hours. Furthermore, you will also be required to pass the pre-employment medical and drug/alcohol assessment requirements.
