Staff Process Engineer

The Staff Process Engineer will provide technical depth and leadership in Front-End Development (FED) across both the Superior Refinery and Lloydminster assets. This role supports execution and commissioning phases through procedure development, laboratory setup, and operator/technical training. The position also partners with Senior Managers in FED to address performance issues, ensuring consistency and quality across the portfolio. In addition, the role requires collaboration at both leadership and working levels to align business development, asset, and corporate priorities, ensuring solutions are fully integrated across the organization.

This position is located in Lloydminster and requires the successful candidate to live in the area.

What you'll do:

  • Lead contractor bidding, selection, and performance management, ensuring alignment with project goals across Superior and Lloydminster FED initiatives.
  • Partner with project managers to ensure contractor alignment and smooth transitions through project phases.
  • Collaborate with asset, EHS, reliability, infrastructure, and technical teams to validate assumptions, identify opportunities, and support successful project delivery.
  • Support asset teams in identifying and developing opportunities for inclusion in the capital plan, ensuring project economics and drivers are clearly defined for prioritization.
  • Perform risk assessments, justification analysis, and economic feasibility studies to evaluate project scope, establish problem statements, and prioritize projects in line with sustaining capital objectives.
  • Develop margin improvement projects with SMEs and technical teams, verifying economics and defining minimum technical solutions to improve asset performance.
  • Collaborate with engineering to establish and uphold design standards, manage HAZOP updates, and review PFDs/P&IDs to ensure reliability, compliance, and process safety in the FED process.

Who you are:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical or Petroleum Engineering
  • A member in good standing or eligible for registration with APEGA or APEGS
  • Minimum 12 years of refining process engineering and project engineering experience
  • Experience in multiple process units and a broad working knowledge of refinery unit operations
  • Strong technical computing literacy to support modeling, simulation and data analysis
  • Willing to travel approximately 25-45% of the time

As this position has been identified as safety sensitive, employment of a final candidate selected for this position will be conditional upon successful completion of required pre-employment medical and alcohol/drug assessments.

For this position you will be required to maintain a Class 5 driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines. A driver's abstract will be one of the background checks requested in the pre-employment screening for the final candidate.
