Reservoir Engineer
Cenovus is seeking an experienced Reservoir Engineer with a strong technical foundation in reservoir engineering and resource development. As a key member of our Conventional Heavy Oil (CHO) asset team, you will help drive our growth strategy by:
- Influencing optimal well designs to improve performance
- Improving forecast accuracy to enable better decision-making
- Unlocking value from our large resource base through competitor analysis and technical reviews
We are looking for someone who has a proven ability to collaboratively turn ideas into results. Strong analytical skills, paired with proficiency in data science tools (e.g., Python, visualizations, machine learning, etc.) will be a significant asset. This is a unique opportunity to work on one of the largest and most diverse heavy oil land positions in Canada, with the scale and resources to test new ideas, learn quickly, and deliver meaningful results.
What you'll do:
- Translate strategy and priorities into development plans and actions
- Maximize value of Conventional Heavy Oil assets by working collaboratively with asset team members (Reservoir, Geoscience, Production, Field Operations and well delivery)
- Provide reservoir engineering guidance to evaluation and design of Conventional Heavy Oil projects and long-range planning (production forecasting, type-curve assumptions, etc.)
- Provide reservoir modeling to enhance our current primary multilateral projects and determine design of future primary and EOR projects
- Leverage reservoir simulation and empirical modeling to inform well/field design optimizations and improvements
- Participate in project lookbacks and competitor analysis to improve well costs, design, and performance
- Ensure forecasts are reflective of current performance
- Develop databases, dataflows, data visualizations, and machine learning models to provide actionable insights
- Technical assurance support of critical reservoir engineering functions including analog analysis, type curve generation, well design optimization, and risk management to ensure development economics sufficiently capture and balance scope, value, risk, and uncertainty
Who you are:
Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:
- Legally authorized to work in Canada
- Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) accredited with APEGA/APEGS
- Minimum of 8 years of reservoir/production engineering experience. Experience with Cold heavy Oil development would be considered an asset
- Proficiency in AccuMap, PVR, SCADA, Power BI, Value Navigator or similar tools
- Experience in reservoir simulation
- Experience/capability in economic evaluation
- Experience in Python, SQL, and machine learning models
- Demonstrated ability to learn new concepts quickly
- Experience designing and implementing water/polymer flood operations is an asset
We acknowledge the value of transferrable skills and may consider equivalent combinations of experience and education should you not meet a specific requirement.
Note: The application deadline for this position is 11:59 PM MT, September 1st, 2025.
Internal candidates that are currently in a lower grade will be assessed based on their sustained job performance, how they demonstrate the expected organizational competency behaviors and values, and in discussions with their current leader prior to determining next steps.
