Ethanol Technician - Power Engineer

About this opportunity: The Ethanol Technician - Power Engineer is responsible for performing loading and unloading tasks, operating equipment both in the field and through the DCS and training on the process units. Initially, this position begins on day shifts as an entry-level operator, focusing on proficiency and training while completing lower risk "day operator" tasks. Once trained they will transition to shift work. On shift, the technician rotates through all operating crew positions and informally reports to the lead operator on shift. This role emphasizes the safe and efficient operation of ethanol processing equipment, prioritizing safety, optimizing throughput, and ensuring product quality.

What you'll do:

  • Load rail cars and unload chemical trucks
  • Complete routine rounds and samples supporting shift operations.
  • Complete and log all relevant routine, planned, and unplanned actions throughout the shift
  • Operate DCS and troubleshoot plant operations
  • Complete required operator training and ensure allocated training hours are met
  • Assist with the development and upkeep of operating procedures and lock out tag out procedures
  • Assist in the development and execution of plant performance improvements
  • Identify equipment deficiencies, prepare work requests, prepare equipment for maintenance, and issue safe work permits
  • Perform safe operations to meet production targets & short-term production plan by monitoring process variables & equipment parameters to identify abnormal conditions and carry out appropriate changes

Who you are: Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada
  • 2+ years' experience in an ethanol plant or similar
  • Minimum 3rd class Power Engineering Certificate, 2nd Class Power Engineering Certificate considered an asset
  • Previous project coordination experience considered an asset

As this position has been identified as safety sensitive, employment of a final candidate selected for this position will be conditional upon successful completion of required pre-employment medical and alcohol/drug assessments.

For this position, you will be required to maintain a Class 5 driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines. A driver's abstract will be one of the background checks requested in the pre-employment screening for the final candidate.

Internal candidates that are currently in a lower grade will be assessed based on their sustained job performance, how they demonstrate the expected organizational competency behaviors and values and in discussions with their current leader prior to resolving next steps.
