Facilities Engineer

Manage assets and the maintenance strategy for workplace and facilities services across all CGT Catapult locations. Implement and oversee a process of planned maintenance, including developing, retaining and updating the facilities maintenance approach of the organisation.

Ensure statutory compliance of facilities and provide expert engineering oversight of legionella, asbestos, local exhaust ventilation, LOTO, and other similar critical safety management aspects of hard facilities management. Act as Duty Holder for statutory compliance of nominated subject matter areas.

Key responsibilities include managing facilities work in accordance with the current environmental and health and safety legislation, risk assessment requirements, codes of practice and policies of CGT Catapult; operating a maintenance strategy which incorporates planning, recording, monitoring, auditing, tracking and controlling asset maintenance, in line with the current legal requirements; establishing and confirming a system for identifying and managing the risks in different maintenance schedules; confirming that records, including the computerised facilities management systems, are kept up to date and in line with current legal requirements and policies of the organisation; identifying priorities and risks in the organisation's business continuity plan; identifying and delivering opportunities to improve energy management measures in line with the current legal requirements, best practice and the organisation's energy opportunities scheme; performing and managing regular reviews and inspections of assets and confirming that maintenance is carried out according to maintenance schedules and the current legal requirements; using the findings from reviews and energy performance to inform the monitoring of Key Performance Indicators; identifying areas for improvement or action in maintenance schedules; recording monitoring outcomes in the required format and reporting as required; assessing costs, risks and opportunities of the planned actions to achieve best value in asset management; confirming that the organisation operates within the current legal requirements and social responsibilities, working closely with the EHS Manager to ensure safe work practices across the organisation; working with third parties and landlords to coordinate FM activity and compliance in shared facilities such as Guy's hospital or Sycamore House (for example); leading and representing the soft FM provision at the CGT Catapult facilities.

The above is an outline of the tasks, responsibilities, and outcome required of the role; the Plant Manager may be required to undertake other duties as reasonably required as CGT Catapult facilities evolve under the dynamic CGT Catapult business strategy.

Experience required includes time served or degree qualified engineer with 5+ years of practical experience within the maintenance field; oversight of hard facilities management across a range of manufacturing and laboratory environments; line management of a small team; management of contractors and third party FM provision; operation of safe systems of work and method statement/risk assessment; experience working with a recognised computerised maintenance management system (CMMS).

Skills, knowledge, and expertise include a highly motivated, dynamic individual with ambition to create a world-leading manufacturing and innovation cluster; pragmatic and practical to enable the mission of the Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult to accelerate the development of a commercial industry in the UK; practical knowledge of hard FM systems; strong interpersonal, communication (oral and written) skills and emotional intelligence; a "roll your sleeves up" hands-on attitude towards varying work assignments; strong diagnosis and problem solving ability on engineering systems; experience of standard Microsoft packages; ability to work well under pressure, to work independently and to be able to take the initiative when completing tasks; comfortable operating autonomously once goals and objectives are set; configuration and use of CMMS systems; keeps up to date with professional knowledge, expertise and best practice; willingness to travel.

Education/qualifications include time served or degree qualified engineer with 5+ years of practical experience within the maintenance field; IOSH or NEBOSH qualification desirable.
