We are seeking a Senior Manager of Digital Audience Research to lead our digital insights and analytics efforts. In this role, you will manage the research function that drives digital data-informed decision making for CBC English Services. You will play a key role in setting performance targets, interpreting complex digital data, and delivering insights that align with CBC's business objectives. This is a leadership role ideal for someone with a strong background in digital analytics, market research, and performance optimization, who can communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

The Senior Manager of Digital Audience Research will oversee a team to deliver accurate digital reporting with actionable insights for target setting and performance measurement tracking to support CBC English Services digital strategies and objectives. The role will play a critical part in shaping CBC’s digital strategy by analyzing data across digital platforms to establish performance benchmarks and targets. They will also oversee reporting on first-party account-collected data for Audience Research, helping to deepen the organization’s understanding of its digital audience. This role requires the active partnership with Executive-level stakeholders to discuss areas of decision-making where data insights may be required, and to propose key metrics to track performance and outcomes. They will provide analysis and interpretation of digital data from both on-platform and off-platform sources to inform strategic planning, and audience growth initiatives. The role requires the evaluation of research needs of stakeholders and recommends appropriate research approaches, data sources, and tools to be used.

The Senior Manager of Digital Audience Research is responsible for overseeing their direct reports, focusing on their professional development and building their expertise in the digital landscape. They will also be responsible for digital training and supporting the wider Audience Research team, with regular and ongoing training sessions on digital analytics methodologies, tools, and emerging best practices for digital analytics.

We are looking for a candidate with the following profile:

  • Requires excellent knowledge of CBC English Services’ programming, product, and strategic goals and objectives and a vision of how CBC Audience Research can contribute to and support the goals.
  • Extensive experience with managing, mentoring, and leading a team. Requires knowledge of Collective Agreements.
  • Experience managing project-related budgets, and procurement processes to work with external suppliers is also required. Manage relationships with research vendors, data providers, and analytics platforms.
  • Comprehensive and in-depth knowledge of the media environment and a thorough knowledge of the technical aspects of audience measurement is essential. Monitor industry trends, digital trends, competitor activities and performance, and market opportunities to inform digital strategy.
  • Enable the digital research strategy, aligning analytics efforts with business priorities and growth goals.
  • Demonstrated expertise in digital analytics tools to evaluate performance and identify areas for growth. Use data to define and set realistic, data-informed KPIs and digital performance targets.
  • Extensive proficiency with digital data software such as Comscore, Adobe Analytics, Amplitude, and Triton.
  • Extensive experience with off-platform data such as YouTube Analytics, various FAST data suppliers (Roku, Samsung, Plex, PlutoTV, Amazon Freevee, LG), Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and social media accounts (Meta, X/Twitter/TikTok/Snapchat).
  • Lead the reporting on CBC account-collected first-party data to enhance understanding of CBC’s digital users. Advanced knowledge of Supermetrics and Databricks (or other data intelligence platforms) and extracting large datasets for analysis. Familiarity with data modeling, SQL, or scripting languages (Python or R) for data analysis is a plus.
  • Collaborate with various stakeholder groups to define and refine KPIs, OKRs, and set digital performance targets.
  • Manage team to develop and monitor digital dashboards, reporting frameworks, reports, and executive summaries for internal stakeholders to track pacing of performance and provide opportunities to pivot based on results.
  • Must be able to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights to stakeholders of all levels and to both technical and non-technical partners, to influence business strategy.
  • Proficiency in visualization tools such as Google Data Studio, PowerBI, and Adobe Workspace.
  • Advanced Google Slides/Powerpoint and Google Sheets/Excel skills.
  • Requires a high level of oral and written communication skills, especially for the presentation of digital research insights to all levels within CBC, and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to deal diplomatically with confidential, proprietary, and politically sensitive issues both inside and outside the CBC.
  • Requires the capacity to respond in a timely way to a diverse number of requests, both urgent and long-term, and to rank multiple priorities.
  • Mentor and manage a team of research analysts, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Some travel within Canada may be required.
  • Requires academic and professional training in social science research with a degree in communications, social science, media studies, or relevant discipline or equivalent education and experience.
