At CBC/Radio-Canada, we create content that informs, entertains and connects Canadians on multiple platforms. Our successes and accomplishments are driven by embodying and upholding values, which include creativity, integrity, inclusiveness and relevance. Do you think you have the ability and drive to keep up with this exciting, ever-changing industry? Whether it be in front of the camera, on air, online or behind the scenes, you would be joining a team that thrives on making connections and telling stories that are important to Canadians.

Your role:

CBC New Brunswick is looking for an accomplished journalist and skilled editor to join our team. As the successful candidate, you will edit the stories of energetic, curious reporters at various levels of experience, based in Fredericton, Moncton, and Saint John. You will write sharp headlines. You will ensure the delivery of news to CBC's digital platforms. You will keep our audience top of mind.

You're able to work quickly and calmly to deliver stories that are clear, accurate, balanced and crisply told — and packaged with visual and other elements in an engaging way. You are organized, your judgment is solid and your standards high, and you pay exceptional attention to detail. You are well-read with a sharp eye for a range of stories that connect with contemporary Canada. You are a critical thinker with a keen interest in news that affects our audience and the communities we cover.

You're a mentor, coach and diplomat. You see ways to restructure or untangle stories if needed. You delight in a sparkly good sentence and absorbing narrative, but you don't fiddle just to fiddle. You collaborate with reporters and producers to get the best results.

You are able to make decisions in keeping with CBC's Journalistic Standards and Practices and are always alert to potential legal concerns. You are eager to explore CBC's Language Guide.

You are proficient in leveraging visual storytelling tools and techniques, and adapting to evolving technologies.

You appreciate different perspectives and experiences and understand the importance of diversity and inclusion.

You practice and promote the values of a respectful work culture.

This role requires a full-time on-site presence.

Job responsibilities:

  • Copy edit breaking, developing, enterprise and feature news, as well as multimedia projects, video and audio copy, video titles and photo descriptions.

  • Package digital stories according to mobile-first considerations.
  • Support our digital strategy, including our greater emphasis on video.
  • Pay attention to our lineup and update as needed.
  • Help reporters develop their digital writing skills.
  • Communicate, uphold and contribute to best practices.

Relevant skills and experience:

  • Five years of experience as a journalist.

  • Excellent news judgment.

  • Knowledge of legal and ethical issues related to journalism.
  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity.
  • Stellar communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Aptitude with text and video content management systems.
  • Knowledge of industry trends and practices.
  • University degree or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to work weekends, early mornings and statutory holidays, when required.

Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.

We thank all applicants for their interest, but only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.

As part of our recruitment process, candidates who advance to the next step will be asked to complete a background check. This includes:

  • A mandatory Criminal record check.
  • Other background checks may be conducted based on the operational requirements of the position.
