Roles & Responsibilities
Members of the Retail Electric Power Application Engineering team provide front line technical support to our dealers and sales teams with a focus on packaged generator set products, customer/site specific options and Custom enclosure solution.
The role would be of interest for those with broad technical knowledge and a desire to be more closely involved with the end customer and their projects. The team helps deliver sales results, engages with our dealers and end customers to better understand their needs.
Job Duties/Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- Management of and response to dealer technical inquiries on Electric Power products, ranging from basic to extremely complex. This will include development of Design to Order (DTO) quotations for custom options not offered in the standard price lists.
- Consultation with both the dealer & sales organizations on product offerings and how to best apply them. This will include project specific technical guidance along with being the interface with core engineering teams while investigating potential solutions.
- Feedback to engineering and product definition teams in order to drive and improve future product development allowing Caterpillar to better meet our customer needs.
- Act as a liaison to a specific sales region to better understand the needs of that market working to lead the A&I team in a more focused support of that region.
- Identification & delivery of product application training along with creating independent materials and white papers to assist with frequently requested topics.
- Understand of Tender specifications and communicating them with engineering teams and helping to produce submittal documents for our Genset enclosures.
- This position will act as a consultant to various departments within Caterpillar regarding the direction and strategies that key industry leaders will be adopting in the future
- Must communicate effectively across product, industry, dealer and/or customer audiences to gain understanding and acceptance of ideas and recommendations
- Manages the compliance of their own assignments and keeps up to date with new industry trends, changing technology and regulations affecting the competitive environment.
- Have knowledge of electrical and mechanical Interfaces between Genset and Customer equipment at site
- Possess good verbal and written Communication skills including seeking approval/seeking consensus.
- This position will also make regular visits to job locations, foreign and domestic, to provide advice and counsel to potential customers
- Must communicate effectively across product, industry, dealer and/or customer audiences to gain understanding and acceptance of ideas and recommendations. Must have ability to work with people from many different backgrounds and cultures, internally and externally, with the appropriate influence and ability to resolve differences. Good human relations skills are required to develop a collaborative/cooperative work relationship with others inside and outside the business unit.
Required Qualifications:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum 5 years' experience with product and/or industry expertise with generator sets
- Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time throughout the year
- Excellent analytical and computer skills
Desired Qualifications:
- Familiarity with various Caterpillar systems (TMI, EOMP, CSQ, EDDC and other technical, drawing and operations system)
- Previous field technical or sales experience working with Customers/Dealers/Distributors. Preferably as Cat Reps / Territory Managers / Product Support Rep.
- Significant account management experience and/or commercial experience within the company and/or was a fully contributing member on significant projects and/or teams.
- Multidisciplinary skills (Business Development, Sales & Marketing, Technical Sales)
