The Core Embedded Software division is seeking a leader to fill the position of Manager Engineering for the Onboard Monitoring Software section. This position provides people and technical leadership for a team of about 20 Cat and Agency team members located in Mossville, IL along with providing product line direction for global resources.

This position manages an annual global budget in the range of $6M to $7M. This team has responsibility for managing the Onboard Software across the information products utilized across the Caterpillar product lines. This position will interact regularly with the systems team and managers to focus on developing requirements, designing software, and validation of the software. Plans, directs and leads engineering staff and activities to ensure projects, initiatives and processes comply with established policies/objectives.

What You Will Do:

  • Leadership of the Onboard Monitoring Software section
  • Provide people leadership, drive career development, and act as a mentor for a diverse multi-functional team
  • Lead the global work group to meet clients' objectives for delivery of Onboard Monitoring software
  • Collaborate with and communicate results to the Machine & Engine Systems teams
  • Work with members of the Senior Technology Leadership Forum (STLF) to prioritize information related projects that will benefit the Caterpillar enterprise
  • Work with Cat Electronics Chief Engineers, Tech Stewards, clients, and process partners to develop roadmaps and strategies for Information Software
  • Manage the team's budget
  • Managing the engineering staff and activities with an emphasis on organizational goals achievement, professional development and continuous improvement.
  • Monitoring and continuously improving product and process performance, quality and cost-effectiveness for all engineering activities and deliverables.
  • Providing leadership to create and maintain processes used to design, develop and manufacture components, systems, products, services, and technologies.
  • Managing engineering product and manufacturing process or quality issues, from concept through end of life-cycle.

What You Will Have: Planning: Tactical, Strategic: Knowledge of effective planning techniques and ability to contribute to operational (short term), tactical (1-2 years) and strategic (3-5 years) planning in support of the overall business plan. Communicating for Impact: Knowledge of the concepts, tools and techniques for effective listening and communicating; ability to apply these theories to receive, transmit and accurately interpret information and ideas to influence others in various situations. Customer/Market Focus: Understanding of the importance of remaining aware of shifting market priorities and ability to respond to internal and external customer needs in a manner that consistently adds value. Managing People: Knowledge of processes involved in managing people; ability to lead successful teams, and diligently address issues related to performance and conflicts at the workplace. Collaborating Globally: Knowledge of effective collaboration techniques and ability to build networks with people from different countries and cultures, think and work with them to bring positive impact and flourishing business results. Influencing Through Expertise: Knowledge of effective influencing tactics and strategies; ability to use these to deepen own expertise and impact or challenge decisions within and outside own organization.

Considerations For Top Candidates:

  • Degree in accredited Engineering, Computer Science, OR equivalent working experience
  • Engineering experience, in roles of increasing responsibility
  • Experience with electronics systems or software development experience
  • Supervisory experience
  • Proven global team leadership experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in order to persuade others on new technologies, or potential solutions
  • Experience with the New Product Introduction (NPI) process on engine or machine products
  • Demonstrated strong technical and analytical skills

Summary Pay Range: $156,000.00 - $234,000.00 Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
