Job Description

Caterpillar's Electrification & Energy Solutions (E&ES) Division will focus on delivering advanced electrified powertrains, zero-emissions products/technologies, and the solutions and services associated with these technologies. Focus areas include batteries, fuel cells, motors, inverters, micro grid controllers, charging, energy storage systems, lifecycle solutions/services and integration of components for ePowertrain solutions across industries.

Job Summary

The Controls Engineering Specialist position within the Power Conversion Controls team will be responsible for leading controls design, development, simulation, and validation for stationary applications. The position will develop leveraged control features to support various power conversion system architectures. The position will collaborate with a global team to solve technical problems and deliver on project goals, continually learn to stay abreast of innovative technology, and mentor team members. This role directly impacts Caterpillar current and future electrified products.

What You Will Do

  • Develop and document power conversion controls requirements and translate into detailed design documents based on product level performance requirements
  • Develop common, leveraged control features through model-based development for various system architectures
  • Leverage virtual product development (model-in-the-loop, software-in-the-loop, and hardware-in-the-loop simulation) for control system functional testing, site optimization, and performance verification
  • Develop, calibrate, and validate power conversion control features through lab and / or site development
  • Investigate power conversion control issues for root cause and validate issue resolution
  • Coordinate control feature development to align with project timeline
  • Collaborate with process partners to deliver high quality product

What You Have

  • Degree Requirement: Bachelors in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering or related curriculum
  • Requirements Analysis: Extensive experience and knowledge of tools, methods, and techniques of requirement analysis; ability to elicit, analyze and record required business functionality and non-functionality requirements to ensure the success of a system or software development project
  • Conceptual Thinking: Extensive experience and knowledge of thinking and reasoning at a conceptual level; ability to identify the critical ideas and interdependencies among system elements that impact performance
  • Embedded Systems: Extensive experience and knowledge of embedded systems and their applications; ability to develop embedded systems with varying levels of complexity to control the operations of the machine it is embedded within
  • Problem Solving: Extensive experience and knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations
  • Communicating Complex Concepts: Extensive experience and knowledge of effective presentation tools and techniques to ensure clear understanding; ability to use summarization and simplification techniques to explain complex technical concepts in simple, clear language appropriate to the audience

  • This position is located in Mossville, IL and requires 5-day a week on-site availability

  • Travel is expected 10% or less, typically domestic

Summary Pay Range: $128,470.00 - $192,710.00
