Temporary Mail Package Handler

We are seeking a Temporary Mail Package Handler, and in this role you will contribute to daily mail operations by sorting, distributing, and processing mail and parcel packages to ensure timely and accurate delivery across the university.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Sort, distribute, lift, and transport mail and parcel post packages received from USPS and other carriers
  • Receive and unpack incoming mail and packages delivered through the U.S. Postal Service and other shipping providers
  • Unload trucks and process incoming mail sacks and containers
  • Sort mail for distribution according to organizational structure, box numbers, and building locations
  • Operate postage equipment and meter outgoing mail
  • Provide customer service at the Post Office window, including:
    • Processing cash register transactions/handling cash
    • Selling stamps
    • Determining domestic and international postal rates
    • Processing certified, insured, express, and registered mail

Physical Requirements:

This position requires prolonged standing, walking, bending, and reaching. The role involves handling heavy containers of mail and packages weighing up to 70 pounds (maximum allowable mailing weight).

You Should Demonstrate:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to maintain composure when handling complicated situations or customer interactions
  • Ability to organize workload and perform well under pressure with frequent interruptions
  • Capable of handling several tasks at once while maintaining focus on priorities
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Accountability for the quality and accuracy of work

Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or GED required; a combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
