Summary: Assists teacher in providing the developmental and care needs of children while helping to maintain a quality program at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center Child Development Center. Helps to maintain a clean and safe environment.
Major Job Functions
The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below. In addition, specific functions may change from time to time:
- Uses curriculum items and methodology developed by the teacher with individuals and groups
- Discusses the program and its relation to each child's needs with the lead teacher
- Assists teacher with curriculum planning and gathering of materials needed to implement daily learning activities
- Follows teacher's lead during class time
- Accurately follows established center procedures and routines (diaper changing, emergency procedures, schedules, etc.) without immediate supervision
- Interacts positively with children and provides an appropriate role model
- Participates in parent involvement program including writing for the center's newsletter, regularly scheduled parent-teacher conferences, and parent meetings
- Maintains a clean, safe and health learning environment
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:
Education and Formal Training:
- High School or equivalent required
- Proof of course completion in NC Credentials EDU119 Early Childhood Development with six (6) additional hours in Early Childhood Development from an accredited school required
- Out of state coursework must be reviewed by the NC Division of Childhood Development
- Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED from the American Heart Association (AHA) required
- Infant Toddler Safe Sleep (ITS-SIDS) certification required
Work Experience:
- 2 years of responsible classroom experience in a professional childcare setting and or elementary school preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of physical, intellectual, emotional, and social characteristics of children ages birth to five years.
- Ability to read, write and communicate effectively.
- Ability to communicate effectively and visually observe children in the classroom.
Physical Requirements:
- Work involves a variety of activities to include walking, standing, and lifting of children and various objects.
