Payments Risk & Operations Manager

Canopy is a fast-growing SaaS company in South Jordan, Utah building simple, efficient software for accounting firms. We are looking to revolutionize the accounting space with modern, user-friendly software for a neglected industry.

We aim to help our clients unlock the firm they've always wanted with our Practice Management Suite. We place a strong emphasis on delighting our customers, spotting and solving problems, and being good people along the way. And we just secured $70M in Series C funding to help us fulfill that mission.

The Opportunity

We're looking for a Payments Risk & Operations Manager to join our Finance team at Canopy! This individual will play a critical role in offering a secure, scalable, and trusted payment solution.

Our Finance team is responsible for daily monitoring and analysis of fraud signals, escalated transaction reviews, and risk-related trends. This role will expand that capability by bringing in dedicated expertise to manage and improve our fraud prevention posture, as well as ensuring smooth operations across our payments ecosystem.

You'll take ownership of tools like Adyen Protect, handle payment escalations, and become a subject-matter expert on how our payments systems operate.

What You'll Do

Risk & Fraud Monitoring

  • Monitor activity to detect suspicious patterns, prevent fraudulent transactions, and minimize chargebacks.
  • Manage rule configurations within our Adyen fraud tool Protect, to ensure a balance between security and user experience.
  • Conduct daily reviews of flagged transactions and take appropriate action on fraud alerts and escalations.
  • Track fraud/risk trends and provide insight into emerging patterns in the industry affecting our customer base.

Payments Operations

  • Own day-to-day operations of the payments platform, including transaction monitoring, reconciliation, merchant onboarding, and settlements.
  • Improve operational workflows, develop SOPs, and streamline merchant and customer support processes.
  • Track key KPIs (e.g. transaction success rate, payout timelines, failed payments) and lead efforts to improve them.

Payment Product Escalations & Troubleshooting

  • Investigate and resolve escalated issues in the payment flow, collaborating with Support, Engineering, and our Adyen Account Management team.
  • Serve as the Finance liaison to internal and external teams on transaction anomalies, failed payments, and risk-related bugs.
  • Document recurring issues and recommend process or configuration improvements to prevent future escalations.

Reporting & Analysis

  • Build dashboards and reports in collaboration with our Business Insights team to track KPIs related to fraud, transaction health, and payment performance.
  • Conduct root cause analyses on fraud incidents and collaborate on cross-team learnings.
  • Support audits, compliance reviews, and internal documentation of fraud processes.

What We're Looking For

  • 3+ years of experience in fraud/risk analysis, payments operations, or similar roles in fintech, SaaS, or financial services.
  • Hands-on experience with risk/fraud tools like Adyen, Stripe Radar, Sift, or equivalent platforms.
  • Familiarity with payment infrastructure, third-party payment processors, and risk scoring systems.
  • Strong analytical mindset with a bias toward data-driven decision-making and resolution ownership.
  • Background in accounting, finance, or data analysis is preferred.
  • Project management experience or ability to drive process improvements across departments is a plus.
  • Advanced proficiency in Google Sheets or Excel (pivot tables, filters, lookups, basic formulas).
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, collaborative, and evolving environments.
  • Excellent communicator, analytical problem solver, organized, and resourceful
  • Strong data analysis and pattern recognition skills.
  • Familiarity with payments infrastructure and third-party payment processors.
  • Experience tracking tickets, bugs, or investigations across tools like Jira, Asana, or equivalent.
