Senior Infrastructure Engineer

Insight Global is seeking a Senior Infrastructure Engineer with deep hands-on experience in on-premises data center design, build-out, and modernization. This role is ideal for a technical leader who thrives in dynamic environments and can own infrastructure projects end-to-end—from planning and procurement to racking, cabling, configuration, and optimization. You'll be instrumental in setting up new data centers, expanding existing environments, and supporting hybrid infrastructure initiatives. The ideal candidate is not only technically strong but also collaborative, communicative, and capable of mentoring others while working closely with PMs and cross-functional teams. This role requires hands-on work and 10% travel to different locations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, architect, and implement on-premises data center infrastructure using Cisco UCS/HX, Nutanix HCI, VMware vSphere/vSAN, and Cohesity.
• Lead end-to-end build-outs: assess power, cooling, physical security, and hardware requirements for new server rooms and data centers.
• Perform racking, stacking, and cabling of servers, switches, and storage systems.
• Configure and administer Linux (RHEL, Ubuntu) and Windows Server environments.
• Automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration using Terraform, Ansible, and Puppet.
• Collaborate with network teams to design and implement TCP/IP, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, and firewall configurations.
• Support backup and recovery operations using Cohesity and ensure DR readiness.
• Document SOPs, runbooks, and configuration standards for repeatable deployments.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.
• Travel as needed to support infrastructure deployments (e.g., Alaska, Dallas, Walnut Creek).

• Technically strong and self-driven—can own and deliver infrastructure projects independently.
• Comfortable with physical setup: racking, cabling, configuring servers and switches.
• Deep understanding of Cisco and Nutanix hardware.
• Works well with PMs and cross-functional teams.
• Strategic thinker with hands-on execution skills.

Skills and Requirements:

• Experience & Background:
• 7+ years in infrastructure engineering or data center operations.
• Extensive hands-on experience in designing and building data centers and server rooms, including infrastructure architecture, system configuration, physical build-outs, racking, stacking, and structured cabling.
• Proven experience in on-premises data center environments (not purely cloud).
• Leadership in technical projects or mentoring engineers.
• Strong collaboration across cross-functional teams.
• Travel to different locations 10% of the time.
• Problem-solving mindset with a focus on modernization and optimization.
• Excellent documentation skills for SOPs, runbooks, and configurations.
