Engineering Technician (Mechanical) Position

You will serve as an Engineering Technician (Mechanical) in the Seawater Systems Branch, Marine/Mechanical Division, Engineering and Planning Department of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. Responsibilities include being a senior systems technician, receiving assignments for engineering effort to support conversion, overhaul, and repair work for one or more systems. You will coordinate all efforts of projects on assigned systems, direct and advise engineers and technicians in designs and specifications, provide technical guidance and support to other shipyard components, and participate in conferences for projects.

Requirements include:

For the GS-12 Level: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Experience developing plans associated with the functional design, performance, and evaluation of various submarine systems, their components, equipment, and subsystems.
  • Experience testing and troubleshooting various submarine systems.
  • Experience interpreting engineering drawings, technical manuals, or other technical materials in the performance of naval architectural work.
  • Experience negotiating and justifying projects to managers on conflicting priorities such as meeting technical requirements, standards and funding, scheduling or operational constraints to meet goals and objectives.
  • Experience implementing plans associated with functional design, performance and evaluation of various submarine systems, their components, equipment, and subsystems.

For the GS-11 Level: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Experience assisting in the development of plans associated with the functional design, performance, and evaluation of various submarine systems, their components, equipment, and subsystems.
  • Experience testing and troubleshooting various submarine systems.
  • Experience understanding engineering drawings, technical manuals, or other technical materials in the performance of naval architectural work.
