Our ECU Mechanical & Thermal Design team is a dynamic, high-energy, and innovative group focused on developing mechanical and thermal design of next generation ECUs (Electronic Control Units). The team is responsible for developing Mechanical and Thermal design of new next gen ECU designs, with math, CAD and analysis. The team also reviews and approves production ECU design changes. In this position, the Engineering Manager will be responsible for coordinating the output of 8-12 engineers collaborating on the development of 4-6 ECU parallel designs. We are seeking a high-performing Mechanical Design Manager interested in leading the in-house development of GM electronics design. You will be responsible for the mechanical design, development, and review of Electrical Controllers, for our next generation SDV (Software Defined Vehicle) architecture. You will be depended upon to build strong partnerships with internal and external customers.
+ Execute mechanical design of ECUs per program timing, leading to successful launch of the product.
+ Work with cross functional teams for the selection of Headers & connectors for Power, High Speed Signals, communication signals, RF etc.. to support ECU's designs.
+ Molded/ Integrated headers/ connectors design into housing cover for ECU's with plastic housing and integration of discreate headers for ECU's with die-cast housing.
+ Design mechanical components including castings, injection moldings, stampings, seals, electrical interface, PCBA mounts, connector interface and fastening etc.
+ Perform design calculations, GD&T and tolerance stacks.
+ Create 3D CAD, 2D CAD & lead CAD reviews with stakeholders.
+ Develop analysis and test plan for new design, perform proof of concept tests and analysis.
+ Lead prototyping and testing, analyze test data, and make necessary adjustments to mechanical designs.
+ Work with electrical engineers and PCBA designers to integrate components into electro-mechanical systems.
+ Build partnerships with functional peers internally within GM and externally at Tier 1 suppliers to align on ECU design per development cycles.
+ Develop virtualization technologies that help accelerate and de-risk product development.
+ Communicate design progress and risks to stakeholders and customers.
+ Drive Mechanical design strategy for the enterprise.
+ Solid organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
+ BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent engineering degree
+ 7+ years experience leading a team of Mechanical Engineers
+ Collaborative, team centered experience which leads to on-time delivery of quality
+ 10+ years of engineering experience in design and development of electronics control modules.
+ Exceptional collaboration and teamwork skills; demonstrated ability for working across functional and organizational boundaries.
+ Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling (NX and Teamcenter preferred, but not required), 2D drawings, tolerance analysis, design for manufacturability, and assembly.
+ Strong analytical skills and engineering fundamentals in solid mechanics, material science, heat transfer, mechanism design, and manufacturing
+ Hands-on experience engaging with electronics manufacturers.
+ Master's degree/PhD in Mechanical / Industrial Engineering
+ Mechanical design of PCBAs, computers, or automotive electronics
+ Strong understanding of thermal solutions and their application.
+ Knowledge of vibrational and structural analysis
+ Experience with ASME Y14.5-2009 dimensioning & tolerancing standards.
Upon successful completion of a motor vehicle report review, you will be eligible to participate in a company vehicle evaluation program, through which you will be assigned a General Motors vehicle to drive and evaluate. Note: program participants are required to purchase/lease a qualifying GM vehicle every four years unless one of a limited number of exceptions applies.
The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of the California Bay Area. The salary range for this role is $168,000 - 258,800.00. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
