Advanced Medical Support Assistant
The position serves as a Advanced Medical Support Assistant (AMSA) at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System, Health Administration Service. The Advanced Medical Support Assistant is responsible for a range of clerical and administrative duties that demonstrate the advanced level of the MSA. The primary purpose of the position is to provide administrative and team support in a wide variety of basic administrative function within a Patient Aligned Care Team, Specialty Clinic, or Call Center.

The Advanced Medical Support Assistant (AMSA) are multi-functional employees with full clerical capabilities and responsibilities. AMSA's must interpret and implement regulations accurately to reflect current operating procedures. Provides the customer with consistent information according to established policies and procedures. Handles conflict and problems in dealing with the customer constructively and appropriately. Consistently communicates and treats customers (patients, visitors, volunteers, and all medical center staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner.
Requirements include:
- You must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
- You may be required to serve a trial period.
- Subject to background/security investigation.
- Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.
- Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
- Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).

Basic Requirements:
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- English Language Proficiency: MSAs must be proficient in spoken and written English.
Grade Determinations:
Advanced Medical Support Assistant, GS-6:
- Experience: One year of experience equivalent to the GS-5 grade level.
- Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to collaborate and communicate with a wide range of medical clinicians across multiple disciplines.
- Ability to independently set priorities and organize work to meet deadlines.
- Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively with internal and external customers.
- Advanced knowledge of the technical health care process.
- Advanced knowledge of policies and procedures associated with interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery.
- Advanced knowledge of medical terminology.
