About the Opportunity

The Marketing Specialist assists with advertising, email campaigns, and other marketing initiatives across the Brand Marketing and Sales teams to drive visitation and revenue. This position supports and contributes to the Academy's mission to regenerate the natural world by engaging the public and inviting guests to discover world-class exhibits, events, and experiences. This position is full-time and reports to the Sr. Manager of Advertising & Promotions.

The Academy is looking for candidates who do great work, and we know they may come from a number of different backgrounds and experiences. This position is based in San Francisco, California. Staff are currently expected to work from the Academy offices at least 3 times per week, which may fluctuate based on business needs.

Position Key Responsibilities

Support marketing initiatives across the Brand Marketing and Sales teams in the key areas outlined below.

Advertising and Promotions

  • Assist in the creative development and production process of advertising materials such as TV, radio, print, and digital ads by coordinating meetings with the advertising agency, internal marketing team, and key stakeholders; gathering information and assets such as photos, video, and copy points; fact-checking ads with scientists and other experts; preparing internal presentations.
  • Coordinate the creation of marketing collateral such as signage, (printed and digital), email assets, website assets, etc., sometimes working with an in-house design team and sometimes creating/updating materials independently.
  • Conduct benchmarking research for sales products and recommend and execute new marketing tactics for various products and experiences such as Birthday Parties, sleepovers, event rentals, and tours.
  • Keep website content up to date as needed for NightLife and products/experiences managed by the Sales team, including writing/editing copy and sourcing images.
  • Coordinate with internal and external partners to promote the Academy's affordable access programs, and help expand and optimize the program by tracking usage data and conducting research on new opportunities to reach qualified audiences.
  • Ensures our marketing materials and outreach strategies authentically represent and appeal to the diverse audiences we aim to welcome to the Academy.

Email Marketing

  • Send and create outbound email marketing campaigns for various audiences, which includes: maintaining editorial calendars for recurring email campaigns, gathering campaign requirements, submitting requests to email team, writing/editing email copy, sourcing/resizing images, coordinating stakeholder review and approval process, monitoring performance and sharing results.
  • Develop and send visitor surveys for products such as tours, sleepovers, and family nights, and report on results.

Content and Timeline Management

  • Keep website content up to date as needed, including writing/editing copy and sourcing images.
  • Create updated web content periodically for third-party partner websites, such as Travel Industry Sales partners, to showcase new exhibits and experiences.
  • Maintain and build promotional timelines for various stakeholders.

Qualifications

Experience and/or Education:

  • At least 1-2 years of relevant experience working on a Marketing, Advertising, or Communications team.
  • Office/administration experience.
  • Experience writing and editing promotional copy for public audiences required.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Fundamental understanding of Marketing & Communications practices; desire to learn and grow within a marketing team, and interest in keeping abreast of trends in marketing & advertising.
  • Experience developing content for email marketing campaigns.
  • Demonstrated ability to write and edit concise and effective promotional copy tailored to specific audiences.
  • Detail-oriented, and able to manage deadlines while working on multiple time-sensitive projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent problem-solving, project management, and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to request and incorporate feedback and learn new skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Basic analytical skills and ability to use data to measure results; experience creating marketing reports is a plus.
  • Proficient in Google Suite; familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite is a plus; familiarity with Google Analytics is a plus.

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly range for this position is $30.63 - $31.86. Actual compensation will be commensurate with the final candidate's qualifications and experience, including skills, knowledge, relevant education, certifications and aligned with the internal peer group. We believe in fair and equitable compensation practices and are committed to providing competitive salaries within the industry and market standards. The Academy offers a total compensation package that emphasizes both base salary and comprehensive benefits based on the hours per week worked. Further details regarding compensation and benefits will be discussed during the interview process.

The schedule is full-time, 40 hours per week.
