Cloud Infrastructure Engineer (Chef / Terraform / AWS)

Must-Have Qualifications

• 5+ years of recent experience in infrastructure engineering/development using Chef, Terraform, and Ansible
• 2–3 years of recent experience with Python and Bash scripting
• 7+ years of overall experience working with AWS, including strong Linux administration skills

Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to design, build, and maintain automated infrastructure solutions across AWS and Azure environments. This role focuses on configuration management, image engineering, and infrastructure as code (IaC) using modern DevOps practices.

Key Responsibilities

Chef Engineering (Cookbooks & Policy)

• Develop and maintain Chef cookbooks and recipes to enforce OS baseline configurations
• Write and test Chef code (Ruby DSL), including attributes, templates, and data bags
• Manage Chef policies (Policyfiles, environments, roles) based on organizational standards
• Implement reusable, idempotent automation patterns
• Securely manage secrets using vaults or secret stores
• Automate onboarding of new Linux systems into Chef (bootstrap, node configuration, compliance)

Golden Image / AMI / Cloud Image Engineering

• Own and manage the monthly golden image lifecycle, including: base image updates, patching, and hardening; validation against functional and security requirements; versioning, tagging, and deprecation of outdated images
• Build and maintain AWS AMIs across multiple accounts and regions (including sharing and permissions)
• Develop and manage Azure Managed Images and Shared Image Gallery versions
• Ensure images include required tools such as monitoring agents, security tools, EDR, vulnerability scanning, and system extensions
• Maintain documentation and release notes for each image release cycle

Terraform Development (AWS & Azure)

• Design and maintain reusable Terraform modules for: AWS: EC2 launch templates, Auto Scaling Groups (ASGs), IAM roles, security groups, EBS, tagging standards; Azure: Resource groups, VMs/VMSS, managed identities, networking (NIC/NSG), image references
• Build modular, version-controlled infrastructure with secure defaults
• Integrate Terraform workflows into CI/CD pipelines, including remote state management and approval processes

Automation / CI/CD / Quality Engineering

• Integrate infrastructure and image pipelines into CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps)
• Implement automated testing and validation, including: Chef unit and integration testing (e.g., Test Kitchen, InSpec); image validation (boot checks, package verification, agent health, compliance checks); Terraform linting, formatting, validation, and policy enforcement

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in multi-cloud environments (AWS & Azure)
• Strong understanding of DevOps best practices and automation frameworks
• Familiarity with security and compliance standards in cloud environments
