Utility Serviceperson
The Utility Serviceperson (Fencing, Fire Extinguisher and School Equipment, Flooring and/or Electromechanical Equipment) - District shall carry out the performance responsibilities listed below.
• Erect and repair fences/gates and perform general maintenance repairs; lay out fence lines, dig holes, set posts, mix concrete, attach rails or tension wires, stretch wires, and assemble gates as follows:
- Requisition and/or special order materials necessary for proper completion of fencing and playground projects.
- Interpret blueprints, sketches, written instructions, etc. to determine location and exact placement of fences and playground equipment.
- Prepare sites for installation by performing tasks such as digging holes, shoveling dirt, raking and removing debris.
- Mix and prepare concrete, place fence posts/playground equipment properly in ground cavities, pour and level concrete and otherwise secure fencing/playground equipment for safe utilization.
- Stretch and secure fencing.
- Fabricate and install gating.
- Assemble playground equipment.
- Remove and properly discard obsolete and defective equipment and materials.
• Service fire extinguishers and perform related duties, such as:
- Inspect, install, replace and record data concerning all fire extinguishers required in designated locations in accordance with established schedules and regulations; arrange for the recharging of fire extinguishers as needed.
- Prepare and place fire extinguisher signs in accordance with all governmental and school board regulations.
- Reupholster furniture with vinyl materials.
- Install, repair and/or replace school equipment, such as "sneeze guards" on cafeteria lines, restroom dispensing machines, gym seating, tables, chairs, etc.
- Repair venetian blinds and hang, restring and repair draperies and curtains.
• Service, inspect, and report on the equipment involved in the power trains electro mechanical equipment:
- Inspect, tighten, and/or replace belts on air handlers, fans, etc.
- Inspect and add appropriate oil or grease to bearings on motors, shafts, gearboxes on air handlers, fans, etc.
- Inspect electrical systems and connections.
- Report items which require the attention of journeypersons.
- Use chemicals and power equipment to clean air conditioning coils and air handling equipment.
• Service flooring systems by installing, repairing, and altering carpet, tile, and other related floor materials:
- Review the work orders and job sites to determine proper materials, tools, and procedures required for completion of floor covering projects.
- Requisition and/or special order carpeting, tile, glue, risers, stair treads, cove bases and other materials.
- Lay out, measure and cut carpeting.
- Cut and shape tile.
- Load and transport materials to job sites, as necessary.
- Cut, scrape, pull and otherwise remove defective floor coverings and dispose of all materials in a proper manner; may level present flooring.
- Utilize various tools, such as power stretchers, knee kickers, knives, electric drills, heat guns, blowers, electric glue guns, etc., to lay, align and glue coverings to floors.
- Install and secure cove bases, stair treads, and risers or other trim and seam coverings.
• Leave work sites in a clean and orderly condition after completion of projects.
• Operate School Board-owned vehicle in a safe manner and assume responsibility for all supplies and equipment on the vehicle.
• Complete all projects in a competent workmanlike manner and ensure proper recording of time and materials.
• Perform all duties which require extensive physical effort such as climbing, lifting over 60 pounds, pulling, etc.
Position Goal: To install, erect, assemble, repair, maintain, service, and remove materials involved with general maintenance projects, including the use of small power and hand tools.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience:
- Standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of an approved General Educational Development (GED) Testing Program.
- Three (3) years recent experience in erecting and repairing fences; or installing and repairing carpets; or making repairs to power trains and supply systems of electro mechanical equipment.
- Ability to read blueprints, technical data and sketches; prepare estimates of materials from such information.
- Ability to assume responsibility and instruct others.
- Must provide own hand tools.
- Must have a valid Florida driver's license and, if essential to perform certain duties of the position, a proper Florida Class A or B Commercial Driver's License with endorsement is required.
- Computer skills as required for the position.
- This position will include pre-employment drug and alcohol testing.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience:
- Broward County Certificate of Competency in Fence Erection Category - Class 'F', Floor Covering Category - Class 'FL', or Mechanical Maintenance Technician preferred; or a Florida license to inspect and certify fire extinguishers preferred.
- Bilingual skills.
Salary Range: $24.35 - $30.01
NOTE: New Hires will be hired at the Minimum of the assigned Salary Range
