Engineering Manager

As an Engineering Manager at Brightscout, you'll transition from a hands-on technical role into a strategic leadership position focused on team growth, operational excellence, and cross-functional collaboration.

You will be responsible for building and evolving the engineering team structure, nurturing a culture of ownership and innovation, and guiding technical execution to ensure the delivery of high-quality digital solutions. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams—including design, strategy, and client partners—you'll help shape project success from early discovery through launch. Your leadership will not only empower engineers to do their best work, but also help position Brightscout as a trusted technical partner to our clients.

Responsibilities

  • Define and drive the engineering strategy aligned with Brightscout's long-term vision.
  • Oversee technical execution across multiple concurrent projects, ensuring best practices, scalability, and innovation.
  • Own and continuously improve engineering processes including sprint planning, QA, deployment, and documentation.
  • Manage, mentor, and coach engineers of all levels—fostering career growth, skill development, and a high-performance culture.
  • Build and scale the engineering team by hiring, onboarding, and developing technical talent.
  • Foster strong team dynamics through regular 1:1s, feedback, and transparent career paths.
  • Act as the senior engineering representative in client meetings—translating technical complexity into clear, business-aligned insights.
  • Support technical discovery, estimation, and architecture decisions for new and existing projects.
  • Partner with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless collaboration and delivery excellence.
  • Guide the architecture of robust, secure, and scalable cloud-native solutions using modern tech stacks (AWS, Node.js, Go, React, Next.js, etc.).
  • Enforce engineering standards (code reviews, testing, CI/CD) to maintain product quality.
  • Stay ahead of emerging technologies to continually elevate our engineering capabilities.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 2–3 years in engineering or team management.
  • Proven ability to grow, lead, and inspire development teams in an agency or professional services setting.
  • Strong technical background in both frontend (Typescript, React, Next.js, etc.) and backend (Node.js, Golang, Python, etc.) technologies.
  • Solid understanding of DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, cloud infrastructure (especially AWS), and scalable systems architecture.
  • Exceptional project leadership, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication, empathy, and stakeholder management—able to navigate technical and business conversations with confidence.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and project-based work.
  • Commitment to high standards of quality, collaboration, and delivery.
  • A bias for action, ownership, and continuous improvement.
