About the role:

We have an exciting opportunity for an R&D Engineer I supporting the Clot Management franchise within the Peripheral Interventions group. This role will utilize a variety of new and proven technologies to deliver life-changing medical devices to patients and clinicians in support of Boston Scientific's mission. This role supports a major product line with high visibility which will provide the right candidate with excellent growth potential.

At Boston Scientific, our products and technologies are used to diagnose or treat a wide range of medical conditions. We continue to innovate in key areas and are extending our innovations into new geographies and high-growth adjacency markets. Within the Peripheral Interventions (PI) Division we design, develop, produce and sustain technologies for treating peripheral venous and arterial disorders, in addition to supporting evolving regulatory and standard requirements around product design. We provide solutions to patients that include: Drug-Eluting & Bare-Metal Stents, Catheters, Balloons & Drug-Eluting Balloons, Microspheres, Thrombectomy, and Atherectomy. PI has a robust product line and pipeline, and we will continue to make an investment in Interventional treatments.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Fully participate in and successfully contribute to project teams typically including the following activities: product design and development, test of materials, preparation of specifications, process capability studies, research investigations (animal and clinical studies), report preparation, and process/test documentation
  • Collaborate with supplier engineering to develop relationships with suppliers and drive technical results
  • Work independently to plan and schedule own activities necessary to meet timelines
  • Design and coordinate standard engineering tests and experiments
  • Design, procure, and fabricate tooling and fixtures
  • Perform troubleshooting on new products/process problems as related to design, material, or process
  • Summarize and analyze test results
  • Prepare standard reports/documentation to communicate results to technical community
  • Responsible for engineering documentation
  • Invent/create concepts and designs for new products/processes; submit idea disclosures
  • Work cooperatively with process development, quality, manufacturing, regulatory, clinical, and marketing to ensure project success

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship, now or in the future, for employment-based work authorization
  • 0-1 years of prior experience (or similar through internships/co-ops) in Research and Development
  • Prior internship experience with Boston Scientific

Preferred qualifications:

  • Medical device design and or process experience
  • Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Class II or Class III Medical Device product development experience
  • Solid experimental design and statistical analysis knowledge
  • Solid clinical knowledge and experience in cardiovascular anatomy
  • Fundamental understanding of thrombectomy procedures within the arterial system

Compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, among other relevant business or organizational needs. At BSC, it is not typical for an individual to be hired near the bottom or top of the anticipated salary range listed above.

Compensation for non-exempt (hourly), non-sales roles may also include variable compensation from time to time (e.g., any overtime and shift differential) and annual bonus target (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).
